Consume enough water until you're not thirsty anymore. And high fructose corn syrup is hardly anything worth concerning yourself with. Honey (universally considered a "good" sugar) is 49/43 percent fructose/glucose, HFCS is 42/53%, which is almost identical to the composition of honey. The (false) idea about HFCS was that it is inherently obesity-promoting, which it's not. This idea came from bad data that found a positive correlation between the amount of HFCS that companies were including in foods and soft drinks and obesity rates. What was ignored was the context of an ever-increasing intake of processed foods and calorie levels. There is nothing inherently bad about HFCS in the context of a non-retarded diet other than if is found in processed foods. Anyone who says otherwise is just parroting something they heard/read some other idiot say/write and doesn't actually know what they're talking about. It's just another scapegoat for the I'll-informed. In the 80s it was fat, in the 90s it was carbs, then it was HFCS. I tend to avoid the idiocy of the unwashed masses so I don't even know what they've moved onto blaming now. |

Ahhh, forgot about those. I was thinking more about soft drinks.
Bad for you doesn't make much sense unless there is context. Sitting at home on the couch after work every night drinking a couple of bottles of Gatorade would probably be "bad for you" in the sense that if you aren't going to burn off the calories they'll end up as fat. Now if you are running for 2 hours and sweating a lot, Gatorade could help replace lost electrolytes and the calories could help you perform better. Generally, if I'm working out for more than an hour, I'll use something like Endurox for the bit of protein that comes along with the carbs. Or if I'm trying to lose fat and I'm restricting carbs and fat I might use some just before going to the gym to help my energy level. |

Just drink a solid EAA (Scivation Xtend the BEST) during, before and after the workout and no need for whey/carbs.
Basically if your diet is on point you'll have all the nutrients you need running through your veins. |

I also recommend Xtend during workouts. I do protein shakes after with 400 IU vitamin E (antioxidant) and creatine for recovery. Sometimes I'll do some sugar after as well, but I am a hard gainer. I really wouldn't recommend that for people that seem to have no problem putting on weight ; )
You can also do protein, creatine, and some carbs before, although I wouldn't recommend RIGHT before - an intense workout will upset your stomach. I like nature valley bars for some nice complex carbs with a moderate amount of sugar. Some also prefer to take creatine with the first meal of the day vs. before the workout. Consuming some sugar during the workout, with Xtend, will also help with endurance - I like dextrose or mixing it with gatorade. I do go sans sugar a lot though too. Again, if you seem to pack on weight easily, and are really trying to shed fat, I would not recommend added sugar. |

As to gatorade, you can get G2 that is sugar free and 50 calories I believe.

Your diet is the key here. Even with anabolic steroids you won't get much gains if your diet is not on point. You need to intake 1g of protein per lbs of bodyweight. So for example I'm a 5'8 hobbit that weighs in at 210lbs, so my protein intake would be at 210g a day. When I bulk I tend to up my inatke to 1.5g per lbs. I have 3 shakes a day and one shake is roughly 50g of protein. After the gym you should take in some simple carbs and a protein shake ASAP.. At that time your muscle are like sponges and will absorb protein at a very efficient rate. Other then that make sure your diet is on point and eat 5-6 times a day.. Just break your meals up and eat slightly smaller portions. Make sure you eat about an hour or some before the gym.. Have a small well blanaced meal, this will ensure you will have enough energy to get you through your work out. Just don't eat to much or else you'll start to feel slugglish. |
