If you were to pronounce it correctly, you'd likely recognize it.

I love all aspects of aerodynamics, even the fact that you can over come it's forces with lots of power.
While i actually wear one of the least aero helmets on the market (it's one of the lightest and lets the most air in for cooling) i'm amazed at how much of a difference they actually make over 40 miles or so. Heck, every 7 out of 10 pedal strokes is used to just overcome the wind resistance. I'd never wear one of the sperminators, but they sure do help people go faster. But as you pointed out, one of the largest aero gains made on a bike is tighter fitting clothes. Going from a loose fitting jersey to a race fit jersey can save you as much as 25 watts of aero drag. For perspective, i can sustain a 237 watt average for 20 minutes. But change that to an hour and i can only sustain about 225. Change that to 2 hours and it drops all they way to 200 or so. Picking up 25 free watts is a BIG deal, but not big enough to wear one of those helmets. lol

Interesting perspective. Money through income, inheritance, or both? I am not sure I would want to live in a neighborhood that had houses that I would be able to pay cash for. (assuming income based earnings and not a large majority of inheritance/family money - Obviously, if one is over 50 years old and has saved for decades, this rule may change) |
