Costco had some Wagyu, so I had to try it.
Very juicy, the cut picture is after I cut up the other steak for the wife and kids. I'm not sure if its 'better' then a prime steak, definitely juicy, but I'm not convinced that the meat itself is as/more tender as the last prime ribeye steak I had. Either way, it was delicious. For those interested, I clarified some butter, got it good and hot and seared. |

Holy shit that's pricey for 2.23lbs of meat! Was it good?

Thats actually pretty cheap compared to "real" Wagyu, Which you're looking at something like $150+ per pound.
Thats American Wagyu, which is a cross between Japanese Wagyu and typical American cattle. Theres a lot of controversy on the terms "Kobe" and "Wagyu", and they get thrown around to make the suggestion of quality on a given product, which isn't always the case. Now, if you source some Japanese Wagyu from the Miyazaki region of Japan, thats something to write home about. But thats also somewhere around $300/lb. Also, I'm not questioning the quality of the steak that KenB925 purchased, I'm sure it was amazing non-the-less |

I agree that $30/lb. isn’t super pricey for Wagyu and surely worth trying at least once. Prime U.S. beef can easily top $30/lb. Hope you enjoyed it KenB925!
Good video comparing grades of American beef, including Wagyu, for anyone who’s interested:

They also had Wagyu tri-tip that is tempting, but prime is pretty difficult to beat. The Wagyu Tri-Tip is $19/lb |

I guess I would have to try and make my own assessment. However, I'm sure the wife would say "are you CRAZY!" we have kids to feed.

My wife got me the book for Christmas but I haven't gotten all the way through it yet. So far, so good.

Came home to find wife dicing what may have been a pot roast. I went out into garden and cut some green AND purple bok choy to add.
Then I realized she also made guac from my tree |
