Just put the conference champions from the FBS conferences into a bracket and call it a day. ND can sign up or shut up, and there's no ranking or voting or whatever necessary outside of seeding. If someone isn't happy with their seed, they still have the opportunity to settle it on the field.

Yes, you'll still end up with a Bama-Georgia situation from time to time exiting regular season, but it's then exceptionally clear that you must win your conference to join the playoff dance.

I say all of this as a Georgia fan who knows we had our shot on 12/1 and shat the bed.

Yes it was. He was under a lot of pressure and likely needed to fire his son (among other assistant coaches), which he clearly didn't want to do. We had a terrible season and recruiting cycle. He wasn't up for making radical changes and graciously stepped aside. He could have held the school hostage for the rest of his contract term. Additionally, early on in his tenure he donated $1M towards and indoor practice facility. I wanted to see him succeed but it wasn't meant to be.

We'll see who we get to replace him. I don't think it will be Butch Davis and would be shocked if they brought in Schiano after the debacle at Tennessee. I'd like to see them try to get Cristobal, another alum and a great recruiter. Someone needs to figure out how to keep more of the local high school talent local to be competitive again.

NCAA troubles didn't help. Add in a string of mediocre coaches and recruiting that has mostly disappointed (including numerous highly rated recruits who didn't live up to their ratings as well as several mediocre classes) and it becomes difficult for a smaller school like Miami to catch up / compete with bigger programs. I thought Richt would get us somewhere but clearly we have been on a tread mill, at best. I think it needs to start with keeping a bigger share of local talent. We'll never keep all of it, but virtually all top South Florida recruits now head to much bigger SEC schools, Clemson, Ohio State, etc. Someone needs to make Miami a place they want to go again so we can keep a share of these kids each year.

Well, at least I got to go to school there during a pretty great 4-year run ('86 - '90)...

Don't disagree but we can all play that game. We were without five defensive starters at the beginning of the game and without eight by halftime. We can call ask "what if"... But you're right, UCF is going to have to start playing better teams. It will help improve the program further and earn the respect/style points they need. Same thing Fl State and other programs have had to do. They will get there!

Still felt dirty rooting for Texas though as an OU fan, but man was that satisfying.
