Folks what’s the lead time these days on a custom order G60? I can only take delivery after January 19 and so trying to determine timing of the order. Is there such a thing as a dealer choosing a later build slot?

Well I ordered my 550e on Week 30, nearly three months ago, and still hasn't made it to a ship. I had a production week of 36, but since then I've been stuck in QC status so... yeah lovely wait.

Honestly, I’d check with your dealer now. I’m doubtful that if you ordered it now, it would even be here before January 19th.

I ordered my 540 on June 17th. I received a production number on July 6th, when the dealer got their first allocation. They started building MY25 in August, and I was slated for week 36. It’s been completed since September 11th and is still at the factory in the QC stage.

Given shipment schedules for October, it likely wouldn’t get here until November, which makes the entire process close to 6 months.

Thanks folks let me start reaching out. It sounds as though a QC check fail results in an extended delay… what about with a smooth run (knocking on wood)?

From what I’ve been told, it’s less to do with failures and more to do with a missing part necessary to complete the build when it goes on for an extended time.

In this case, at least according to BMW genius, it’s due to the inability to move them forward in the queue due to the glut of vehicles that were remediated when the IBS breaking system recall spun out of control in September.

Some people’s custom builds have cleared QC in the same day as other steps, others have taken a few days. I’ve seen posts where people talked terms of weeks or months. It’s all over the place.

The factory does not release the reason a specific vehicle is in QC to either the dealer or Genius.

I have some speculation. If shipment and moving things along are truly to be believed, all early month October transport ship schedules were cancelled. I think it might have had something to do with the port strike. The first ship out in October isn’t until the 11th. I wonder if we’ll see things start to move after they get ride of some.

Tanzanite is an individual colour option, really? That is nuts. A quite dated but very common colour that is only a slightly more expensive but listed option on the UK configurator alongside Vegas (Fire), Phytonic etc. It certainly should not blow out the build any.

But reading this thread shows how crazy BMW are in different markets, what causes havoc with delivery times and the hassle involved

The timeline below is an example of a "smooth run" I ordered mine at the start of the year before all this recall stuff happened. I took delivery on the West coast, so you could probably take off 2 weeks for an East coast delivery.

Yes, I don't think the T Blue will cause much of a delay since it's one of the colors available to choose from on the online configurator. Scrapula has that color and I don't remember her mentioning anything about a delay because of the color. So, even if there was a delay, it may have been so small that it was imperceptible.

They should update you within a few days after it’s sailed about which ship it’s on. You can approximate by looking at the W&W Schedule and putting in Bremerhaven as the departure and Brunswick as the destination.

Keep in mind, that it may not make the soonest next departure date due to volume of vehicles present for shipping.

As mentioned, Tanzanite Blue is a Priority 1 color and not an Individual paint. While the Configurator notes it can cause a delay I don't believe we have seen any cases of that.

Once you see that it is on a ship, you can call the BMW Genius line and ask them what ship and they will give you the details. It's better than guessing because BMW uses different shipping lines, and cars also leave from different ports sometimes. For example, according to BMW, my car left from a Belgian port and was on a NYK ship.

lol, this was indeed a butter smooth run through the factory. I was expecting QC to Dispatch to be 24 hours, based on your chart and had pinned my hopes on this beautiful illustration. Now, nearly a month later....

Yeah, I feel badly for you guys suffering through the stop sale and recalls. Luckily there were none of those shenanigans when I was waiting for my order.
Even though, it still felt like an eternity to me at the time so I can't imagine how you guys are feeling.
