Fake comfort seats?

Looks like the "comfort" seats on this model lack some of the adjustability of the existing comfort seats. Also, I don't see any mention of seat massage capability.

These ‘Look it looks like this car’ posts are incredibly silly and annoying.

The whole point of a brand design is so that people recognize your car's brand from afar. I know immediately when a Porsche -- any Porsche -- comes up on me or when I see one on the road. They share lots of similar design cues between models.

That used to the case with BMW too. Similar kidney grilles, similar lights. Similar styling all around.

Now it seems each model is being designed by a different design team and given very broad instructions. "Make this more fuel efficient, no matter how hideous the styling." "Don't look at other BMW models for ideas about the lights or grille. Just design whatever moves you."

There's no brand thread running through the various models any longer. Each kidney grille is like some artistic interpretation of the iconic classic grille. None of them share much in common any more (even the vertical slats are gone in some of them!).

And really? The 540i is going to give us a straight 6 that makes LESS horsepower than the same engine in the 440i? It's like they're going out of their way to be insulting. Why add the stupid mild hybrid system if it really does so very little in terms of power, but adds significant degrees of complexity to the motor? I just don't get it.

The ONE thing nearly every positive review of previous G30s comments on is the satisfaction of having physical controls for basic functions like volume and climate control. And of course they took it all away.

The door handles look as cheap as a Camry. Same with the rear/trunk styling -- so very generic. Could be any car out there today.

The pre-LCI G30 (the car I also happen to own) seems like it's going to be the last great 5 series BMW. I'm so, so disappointed.
Pre-LCI G30? Really?
Oh, that’s your car. I get it.

M440i’s an nd M340i’s engines are M Performance tuned. Not suitable for 540i, which is supposed to be smoother. It still has +40HP over the older one.
X5 and X7 have the same engine.

Designer’s goal is NOT to make cars that look like each other. I don’t know where you heard that.

Last great 5, is the G60. I used to have the pre-LCI G30. I can’t even imagine the mindset that would call that better than this. There’s absolutely no comparison.

G60 may be the biggest jump ever in 5 series history.

G60 will have cool tech. All new cars have the best tech. That’s part of being new. So tech wise, yes of course.

The G30 and F10 are both much better looking cars than the G60. I’m not even saying it’s ugly. It’s just boring looking and kind of has some “fad” look to it that I don’t think will age very well.

I do kind of get a kick out of the “pre LCI/LCI” statements. I’m aware they look different, I specifically chose one over the other. But at the same time, the difference isn’t that huge. It’s the headlights, tail lights, some minor differences in the front bumper, and the 19” wheels changed. But it’s the same shape and the same body. When comparing the generations, I don’t think there’s much use in specifying LCI or pre LCI. The G30 and F10 are better looking than the G60, regardless of which year.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but I prefer the Merc. Something odd about the stance of the i5 and the interior doesn’t seem cohesive.

Yeah, I thought the G60 was going to be a no-brainer. Now I'm not so sure. MB did a nice job with the new E. Except for the horrid triangle-illuminated tail lights.

I always chuckle at people on here that say previous body style values went up, but really, G30 values will go up.

I’m trying to like this new 5er as I’ve had 3 of them now and find it’s the perfect car, but I’m having a hard time here. It does look like it’s riding too high, and the rear end does give me MB vibes. I was really excited for the new G60, but I’m a little disappointed.

They could’ve done better even in the general direction they went. I don’t mind the sloped rear. Maybe the ICE and PHEV versions won’t sit so high. But the head and tail lights aren’t very attractive.

i think in real life the 5 will look better. The e has a familiar shape, but that front is way worse than the 5. the E has weird DRL's and a weird black surround around the grill. The E looks fine, but already a bit dated.

Interior, i like ambient lighting, but the 5 is more creative even if the E has more (quality over quatity)

Most E's wont have the hyperscreen, so it will be a large swatch of plastic or something there. I think the screen location is more functional in the 5, too low in the E?

All that black skirt is used to hide the thick battery underneath. This visually hides how much taller the car is. It's probably just a few inches away from being classified as an SUV.

So the guy talks about generic elements that could be part of each design that will resonate with a certain brand-specific language, and you take it to a different level that is on the other side of what he actually said.

Cars can have a perfect distinct design that will incorporate unique-to-the-brand elements that can display their identity and the apartenance to a well defined brand. Angel eyes, hofmesiter king, kidney grill and quad headlights, were few elements that were integrated in BMW DNA.

Some will kill to have such elements to play with in their design. Yet, BMW throws its history in the garbage and replace it with ordinary Camry clues.
I honestly never thought BMW will reach such a low level…

Exactly. That’s part of being a brand. You want people to know you when they see you, without the logo. Or roundel, in this case.

You know a Lexus when you see it. You know a Porsche when you see it. You know an Audi when you see it. You know a Cadillac when you see it. All of those seem to be doing just fine.

I guess I'm an old sentimental person that says "it used to be better in the past", but seriously, I love tech and all, but these BMW interiors just don't do it.

Sat in an i4. Horrible. Sat in the new i7. Meh.

I think they nailed it with the F10/F11.

Interior-wise I prefer the G30/31 over F10/11 but I do agree for the new i7 and also iX. Meh.
This one is not very promising either.

It's like the front of the car designers never talked to the back of the car designers. The front is busy with so many elements competing for attention. It's very strange and not cohesive looking at all.

The rear is the exact opposite. Camry-level boring. Weird corner pieces of black plastic. Slim taillights.

Too much black plastic all over the exterior. It's a really weird design choice for a $60k+ car.

I'll reserve final judgment until I see it in person. But where I was once excited for this version, I'm now very "Meh."
