The sales were always good, I think you don't see the picture very clearly: the only necessity for the FWD move is BMW making more money by selling a cheaper (and rather pathetic) product, the future "BMW Corolla" (like someone was rightfully stating)... And by the way, your vision incidentally encourage that direction... it will sell for what it looks (a carefully adjusted marketing badge), not for what really it's anymore.

It's really getting more sad everyday with BMW....
I don't know... FWD competitor? Active Tourer? FWD X1? XCite?

For a FWD car with a transverse engine, I actually find the proportions pleasing to the eye.

IMO... it has the best proportions of any FWD car, based on the visible lines of the car.
it looks like the latest pics from this car will be at the top or near-top of the line with those big wheels and nicer stance. i like that the wheel gap is not as hideous as gti's or a3/s3. |

I was hoping (and still am) for a 2 series 4 door to update my 332i (US E36M) 4 door. I'll be plowing a little more money into my current car to tide me over for a couple more years while I wait and see. I really like the size of my car, though the chassis is aging, and I can only bolt on sooo many parts to refresh it. I suppose I haven't tried an S54 yet. I'll just keep recycling the old stuff until I see something new that compels me.
Also, I truly do appreciate the RWD functionality as a BMWCCA instructor who spends time on the track and skidpad. FWD on a skidpad (or in snow) is not quite as entertaining. Last edited by marcva; 03-20-2015 at 09:25 AM.. Reason: adding rationale for RWD preference |

Why? BMW!...
I am so disappointed with BMW because of this model. We don't need a 1-series sedan! Not one that looks like this, did they forget how to make a BMW!? Like seriously, it looks so much like a Volvo, and what's up with the rear?
I will without a doubt send them a letter of complaint because of this, or better yet a petition, to see how many real BMW enthusiast would be upset over this decision they're deciding to make. I've been following BMW for 10years now and have always been impressed by the art, design, & quality they output with their cars. I mean, every BMW they've made has had a huge resemblance to their whole line of cars, whether it's a 3-series to the Z or X. They pull off what many other car manufactures don't, which is originality and one look to differ themselves from other companies. Please BMW, don't make this model, or please redesign and think throughly about your company and what you stand for. |

[QUOTE=Matski;17590897]If this ends up having the same front overhang as the FWD 2 series Active Tourer, then it will still have a shorter front overhang than an E39.
By that logic, the Smart car has a shorter overhang than any BMW model out there. You have to consider the dash to axle ratio. I'm sorry but the proportion of the cars below is not even in the same ballpark. |

I just sense that since many are so offended by this vehicle, any little thing they don't like about it will get blamed on the fact it's primarily FWD. edit: WTH did I type that activated the swear filter? Pretty sure I just typed space! Last edited by Matski; 03-19-2015 at 02:51 PM.. |

Although it looks tasteful, it's very difficult to make a car this small attractive as a 4-door sedan with a traditional trunk. The Audi A3 is another example of the awkwardness to which I'm inferring...
In my opinion, cars of this length look much better aesthetically as a hatchback. My $.02 |
