The guidance I’ve researched suggests 2-4 weeks waiting to get loaded at port. It can be much shorter if you get lucky. Then it’s usually another 2-3 weeks in the boat.

That is what I’ve heard. However, my experience tells me much, much longer! 🫢🤞I am hopeful though.

Honestly at this point I'm just hoping it gets into production and ends up being shipped over before the new admin gets in on 1/20/25 or so. Just want to avoid any kerfuffle over tariffs etc.

Your buyers order from your dealer should have the port that it is intended to be shipped into in the upper right hand corner. If you don’t have a copy of it, your dealer will, and they can tell you exactly what port it will be arriving in.

If it actually arrives on Dec. 30 or 31 I'm going to tell them January (my kids will all be visting then anyway and I don't want to spend a couple hours at the dealership while they are visiting, nor deal with all the "let me drive it" action when I get it home). If it arrives Dec. 23 I'd feel worse doing that, though I probably shouldn't. Hoping for a delivery in early January and for above normal temps rather than ice when it arrives.
That is probably just because your dealer wants to increase their yearly sales numbers as much as possible before year end. You can probably cry a little and get a Jan delivery if you need to. Good luck!

I know it goes fast on the production set of steps but they even started mine earlier than projected. However, I wonder if that is a factor and they're expediting production as much as possible? Like I may get lucky enough to have my order on the freighter in a few days if it is Galveston-bound.

No immediate indication on European facing tariffs, however, I doubt any of the German automakers take that as a comfort with any confidence. I'd surely like to accept delivery before 1/20/2025 for any number of reasons though.

It was not just year-end, it was any month. He said BMW rewards/penalizes them based on how many vehicles carry over in inventory to the month following their delivery to the dealer vs how many clear the same month. He was very up front about it and basically said if you want our price that includes your agreement to pick it up the same month it arrives even if it arrives late in the month, within reason and unless it's truly impossible.

But the only month it matters for me is December to January. As long as mine doesn't get loaded on a boat in the next handful of days, though, I assume I'm safe.

That was my thought as well. Might be the first time used BMWs depreciate more slowly, if the new ones have a large % tariff slapped on them. Still a lot of unknowns at this point. They’ll have to tread carefully, as it’s not a question of whether or not other Nations, respond in suite, but by how much. BMW has a large U.S. footprint so hopefully that would be taken into consideration.

I think we likely need to discount any delivery timeframes between late August through the beginning of November.

Shipping schedules were in chaos during those time periods. Using Baltimore as an example, the first shipment in October didn’t occur until the 12th. And there were only three the entire month. There are 6 shipments in November and 4 in December.

Hopefully this is a sign, things will be back to normal for future people who order.

Mercedes and BMW have the broadest dealer network of any European automaker in the United States. Additionally, Mercedes has a massive manufacturing presence in Alabama and BMW in South Carolina. I think the domestic investment in manufacturing plays a factor in how politicians with a protectionary economic position see German automakers.

*Edit: if you count all of VWG as one then I suppose that may be the largest German automaker presence in the US. Although Audi does not have quite as extensive dealer network as MB and BMW.

Guys, how long does it take to move from "Awaiting carrier assignment" to "Dispatched from factory"? I assume that it would be the same or the following day, right?

I believe most people (me included) saw the vehicle set there from 11-6 until 11-15. I think 7-10 days for a number of people, that I can recall. Then it arrived at the Port on 11-18, so three days to reach that status.

Here's the reality of what many of us have experienced:

Dealer Ordered: 6-17-24
Order Accepted: 7-6-24
Order scheduled for production: 7-25-24
Production Begins: 9-04-24 (Estimated Completion 9-11-24)
Exterior Body Assembly Begins: 9-9-24
In the Paint Booth: 9-9-24
Entering Assembly Line: 9-10-24
Quality Check: 9-11-24
Awaiting Carrier Assignment: 11-6-24 (Yes, 8 weeks and 1 day later - Manufacturing Date updated to 11-6-24)
Dispatched from Factory: 11-15-24
At the Port in Germany: 11-18-24

FWIW as a more recent order, mine made that transition same day and arrived at the port four days later:

Entered QC: 11/21/24
Final assembly: 11/21/24
Dispatched from factory: 11/21/24
At the Port: 11/25/2024

So there should be hope that yours will be "dispatched" same day or next day.

Nice! (It's probably a train rather than a truck, from what I can tell, btw). Every step closer is a step closer!

You must probably be right. Unfortunately, Europe has a much more advanced railroad infrastructure than the US.

But as I said previously, the car will be on its way from Europe and I will be in Europe.

ToddRGuy it seems that everything was messed up after those stop sales, even the transport. Now, they seem to be picking up with the manufacturing and also the logistics. Think about it like this... there was no rush to send them to the port when they could not sell them anyway.

Hi All,

I'm a bit confused about today's updates! I thought it supposed to start production today (from the dealers screenshot was planned production date (today))
but it looks like the car has status 182 and is already on its way to me.

Simple, they produced it earlier. Mine was also produced 2 weeks before the first estimated production date. Probably, the production date changed a while back, and you did not ask the dealer for any updates during this time.

BMW is ramping up production, it seems, or maybe there were a lot of cancellations, so they readjusted the production dates of the existing orders.
