I agree, completely. If this strike persists, I think that any good will the public has towards their cause will evaporate like water on a molten hot skillet.

Additionally, I was reading that one of the key areas of concern is automation. They don't want any of the ports to have advanced automation, without discussion and approval. I understand their fear of job loss, but these things are inevitable. In my experience in healthcare, using clinical laboratory automation did not result in job loss. In fact, it allowed us to process more patient samples, have better turn around times, and freed people up to do other critical tasks. I could see such an outcome even in other industries.

It's a delicate line for them to walk, because ultimately if this strike has a significant negative effect on the economy or other industries, it could be used as a case narrative for exactly WHY automation at port authorities are needed.

I agree. from what I'm gathering the west coast ports have implemented automation in some of the process and resulted in job gains and higher wages because the ports can process more, faster. no brainer imo.. I also get the fear, but the only thing to fear IS fear itself. I think someone said that before.

I can't believe they would turn down a 50% pay increase! See, this is why everything is so expensive in the US. It's one of the reasons I like living overseas. While yes, Some things here are more expensive, Like gas, and cars, (A 520i equipped like my 540iX would be over 100K Euros, but that's including IVA (Tax). Everywhere here Tax is included in the price, Unlike the US. It avoids confusion and what you see as the price, is what you pay. There is no such thing as +Tax) but the general cost of living is not.

Medical Care, Dental Care, Prescriptions, Auto Repairs and Service, Food, Pretty much everything is cheaper. I pay about $350 for a Crown at the dentist, then claim it to my insurance and they refund me half. In the US, my co-pay would be more than that AFTER the insurance paid their part. My dentist has all the same tools and equipment as a US top rated Dentist. He is just as educated and skilled. I can go to the pharmacy and pick up a prescription for a small fraction of the price as in the US. For the SAME medication, Made by the SAME manufacturer. Big Pharma does not roam freely here.

But here the unions do not have society by the balls. Yes, there are strikes. But they are not unreasonable.

What is the difference? They are all a bunch of overpaid lazy bums! I have worked in 2 places that had union shops, so I have seen it. Look at them on TV, most are sitting in chairs, too lazy to stand, just like they do when they are suppose to be working. In my book Unions are nothing but criminal activity. I cannot say what I really think.

Same here, but better there, than stuck offshore waiting for the overpaid union bums to get off their butts.

I dunno, I'd much rather it be on this side of the Ocean than still at the factory.

Sitting offshore for who knows how long in the salty air during hurricane season? Not my car, thank you. The ILS boss Harold Daggett stated that "I will cripple you", meaning that bastard wants to bring chaos to all of us. I say FIRE all of them!!

The price of cars and everything else just went up.

Hehe, I've peeked at the interiors of some of these car haulers. Rest assured, that your 5'er isn't covered in kelp and seaweed. Actually, quite environmentally controlled, and likely less salt that a typical midwestern winter, but I understand.

If that's Dagget's stance, then I see a Taft-Hartley Order in the future, irrespective of what Biden has said earlier.

Do the PCD vehicles go to Charleston? Do the ships stop at Baltimore first or are they on different ships altogether?

I think I recall a conversation in another thread about this, and the conclusion was it could either be Brunswick, GA or Charleston.

I think direct shipping or a route, would depend on the total number of vehicles to be transported but I can’t comment on that.

So, the pharmaceutical manufacturers have the same set price. The difference here is the insurance industry. In the US, they are called Pharmacy Benefit Managers. They control the pricing. They are CVS/Caremark and Optus/United Healthcare. They also set the reimbursement rates for medical. You might get a bill that says here is the cost (a made up number), here is what your insurance negotiated cost is (another made up number), what your insurance paid, what your final cost will be. It’s all fake. Same with drugs. They have an outrageous price to show what your PBM is saving you. Working in this industry has taught me a lot. I rarely pay more than $2 for a prescription because we don’t use the big PBMs. Reform is coming. We are also working directly with Pharma to bypass the PBMs. Trying to get this rolled out to the entire country but it will take time.

Yes! I heard as well. Good news for BMW buyers and the rest of the U.S. economy. I was reading that 1/3 of the workers earn between 150-200k with overtime. Add a 77% wage increase to that, and they start entering the same financial territory as a cardiovascular surgeon. That's a decent return on a GED certificate.

Looks like the can is getting kicked down the road until January, I believe?

lol, I’m kind of still hopeful they’ll make it on a ship in October. The Genius people seemed to think so, but who knows given this company’s uncertainties.
