That's what I keep reminding myself. Most of them sign up for yearly memberships and are gone after a few weeks.

It just means more/newer equipment for my gym with the influx of extra cash.

I wish I could hope for that at mine. I've been complaining on their FB page for about 10 weeks, because they said to look for all the changes coming. They put a few benches in the men's room, and ALMOST got the walls painted. All 3 urinals drip water, so everyone stands back, then they miss, then the puddle expands . . . I think the only piece of equipment on "The Beach" that isn't ripped or completely missing is the preacher bench. They put hard rubber, almost like for the floor, on the arm rest. I LIKE that!

I find myself longer at the gym because of all the new hotties around. I swear, i'm pretty sure I hit cable rows twice because this one hottie was on the lat pull down and the only available equipment was the cable row. so I hit the cable row again lol! just enjoying the new eye candy as they'll all be gone here next month

At my gym last year, the spike was over around 1/8. Incredibly fast, I thought!

So far (1/2 today), there has been NO spike at all. Maybe they are waiting for the weekend or next Monday since New Year's was in the middle of the week? IDK...

Everything annoys me about the gym, which is why I work out at home. I have literally never understood going to a gym, unless you need access to something that you can't get at home, like a pool. Take whatever you spend in a year on your membership and put it towards a good treadmill and some equipment and save yourself the hassle, and money in the long run.

oh dude... i have def not the space for all the things i need. when i do benchpress, i need about 320 pounds. i have also not the space for two towers to make some favourite exercises.

so i have to spend that money and the time for the gym 5 to 6 days a week.

to answer at the thread starter... what annoys me... all the people doing wrong exercices. i was 8 years in the german air force among other sings as a instructor and fitness trainer. so it is hard for me to look away and not correct them. it also annoys me when people start asking while im focused on my training. so i started using headphones not to hear them:-)

Same here. The title of the thread might as well be "Bad Things You've Smelled at a Sewage Treatment Plant."

I only take advantage of it because I got "Grandfathered" in at my gym. I still get the same monthly rate as I did back in 1991 when I first joined at 16.

I have made some great friends/contacts through the years from the people who have stuck around. But I used to do it competitively, so it worked out best for me.

Plus like Keya not enough space at home to safely setup when using weights in the 400lb+ range.

But I usually go around 3:30am-4:00am every morning. So I don't have to deal with a lot of the "newer" gym culture that has seemed to become so popular in the last 5 years or so.

I thought that I had posted this yesterday, but it must not have gone through. I'm basically mid set, and this guy comes up to me. I'm blaring my music so hell I didn't know what he said, figured he was asking for a spot. Get over there and he hands me his phone and wants me to record him.... To add insult to injury he was doing deadlifts with only 255lbs, and managed it 5x. I was border line mad about it lol.

ah New Year Resolutioners! I love them...I hate them! the one's I love are always all the yoga pants walking around. I mean, they're freakin everywhere! what I hate are the new people just sitting on equipment and not using them.

Stop bitching, at least you get the yoga pants in your gym lmao.

I just don't like the extra heads, like I mentioned prior my gym is already on the smaller side. I don't necessarily want people looking at me(not that I'm embarrassed or anything to that extent), and I don't want to be looking at people that have no clue what they're doing. I'm all for those that pursue a goal, hell if your resolution is to get fit that is great. But do some damn research before coming in there and have a plan. When your physical composure is the same leaving the gym as you came in then what have you accomplished.

There are a lot of people who, amazingly, do not break a sweat when biking/treadmilling/lifting. I was also amazed that they are able to read tiny print font newspapers while doing their exercises!

/sarcasm

I don't understand the point of it if you don't actually get your heart rate above resting...

I've started doing this. Have a bench, elliptical, pull up bar, and dumbbells at home. Also have a cable machine and just hung a punching bag yesterday in my basement. Most of this stuff I got for free. I'll have to adjust my workout a bit, and have a friend who might train me, but I'm thinking it will probably be easier than the gym. Less distractions (those 20 year olds who are self absorbed anyway) and no excuse since it's in my house. Also no waiting for equipment or dealing with idiots. I got a good 30 min lifting workout in this morning with no standing around waiting for stuff or people bugging me.

My goal this year is to eat healthier. I'm not overweight (5'10 150lbs) but I do eat a lot of junk sometimes, and with my mom going through cancer last year I want to get on a better, leaner diet.
