Just the fact that she's holding it that way, you know she's never shot a day in her life.

There was a fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind (http://welcome.guidedogs.com/) and we brought the pups down for some awwws. CBS Los Angeles sent a crew to cover the event and he had his 4 seconds of fame.

He made it all the way through and is currently guiding for a gentleman in Dallas. Here're a few of his pics during the time he was with me.

Ah, very cool. Guide dogs are truly amazing story. I am fortunate to not need one, but I have seen and heard some truly awe inspiring things. Thanks for filling me in. Not sure how long he was with you, but it must be hard to let him go, although I imagine that knowing what he is doing now helps.

Of course you don't need one, unless you're posting by braille

Robert's partner is a software developer. He last worked for MSFT to help improve access to social media and the internet for the visually impaired. An amazing guy, really.

That's nothing. If you knew or saw firsthand the degree of training and support that these animals go though...*then* you would be impressed. What I've told you is slightly better than absolutely meaningless.

Now, I'm not talking about an emotional therapy pug or a psychiatric service shit suuuu, but a dog that has close to $100K invested and 2 years worth of confidence building, socialization, and the ability to pass significantly difficult tiers of training. Even after getting through the medicals and training, they can't work until they can be matched to someone.

The first match test is gait. Dogs and people all have a "speed" we normally walk at and both have to be paired. Then it's lifestyle, activity level, temperament, special needs, mobility, and so on before the dog starts working. After passing 4-ish months worth of training at the campus, Robert spent 6 months in the kennel waiting for his match. Right now, they have more pups than they can use, so this one will be with me for a while longer.

He was with me slightly more than a year and yeah...at the time he left, I would have chosen to lick the sweat off your shriveled nutsack rather than see him go.

It's all about the final product and like you said, focusing on the fact that this animal was never mine to begin with, not my pet, nor anything that is associated with me, mine, my or any other self centered need. #1...it's a working dog. #2...it's about the visually impaired person who will get a portion of their life back because of this dog and everyone associated with the organization.

And a little factoid...they estimate that by the time this pup is placed, it has about $85K worth of training. The client themselves have to be selected through a process and if they pass, they will be flown to the campus, trained with their dog for 2 weeks, housed, and flown back and all of this is unrecompensed.

The issue that's facing these organizations is capacity, production, and the unregulated proliferation of "service animals."

These "service animals" are the supplements of the dog world and for a few bucks, you can bring fido anywhere...just like the one I saw that had the walking shits at the airport or the one that took a piss on a column in front of SBUX.

EGay and Amazon have these as well.
