- Was it a lot of money? Did you think about robbing them? Having any gun, automatically puts you a step in the right direction. What are you shooting at the moment? Are you looking to conceal carry or just home protection? Home is close quarters, get a shotgun and some buck shots. Conceal carry is very much dependent on your preference. I have a shield 9mm because it's small and easy to carry and hasn't had a single jam in the 1,400 rounds that have gone through it so far. |

If it's pot / meth dealer, you'll be fine... If it's substantially heavier stuff and he moves quantity and you've shut down his business or rather his suppliers business, a 12 gauge isn't going to cut it anyways... You are probably just reading into it, I doubt the cops said - "we're arresting you because your next door neighbor dimed you out..." On top of that, dealing from your own home is small time stuff, I wouldn't sweat it... It sounds like weed though - your story would've included the chaos the cops would've needed to shut down a meth lab... |

I'm thinking mainly home defense at this point, but I would also like to eventually conceal carry. Current gun would be the carry gun. Couple suggestions for a 12ga. so far, pretty much what I had in mind. I know of basically the 870 and 590, but never owned one before. |

Home defense, I'd absolutely recommend an 870, and I know a few others would chime in saying the same thing. In fact, that is likely going to be my next purchase, just not in the cards at the moment. |

Legal stuff is much easier when your dog attacked an intruder rather than shooting a guy. What do you currently have? If it's not up to the task, why do you have it? Competition .22 or plinking rifle? I think an 18" barrel 12 gauge pump shotgun would be sufficient. 00 Buck. Pistol, a high capacity 9mm with a WML Laser combo would be useful. G19 cheap, reliable, effective.

My dog would lick someone to death too, but he looks and sounds mean when you're knocking on the front door. As a common drug dealer thug, when getting revenge on my neighbors who snitched on me, a dog just makes it one more thing to worry about. How close of a neighbor are we talking about? next door, across the street? Do you park in a garage? I'd be more concerned about vandalism retaliation more than anything else. I'd keep an eye on anything my dog was eating when outside as well. Not trying to scare you, but throwing a bag of rat poison covered in peanut butter in your yard isn't a difficult thing to do for low life scum. I had a friend who's champion show dog was killed this way. That's some cowardly shit right there. Though i do think it's somewhat odd that he was in cuffs an hour later. Maybe he sold that last deal to an undercover cop and his cuffing was a coincidence to your call. What did the cops at your house say? I mean, he must have a prior record to get popped like that so quickly. If i called the cops and gave them my neighbor's address and said they were selling drugs, i highly doubt they'd be in cuffs at all.

This and everything else everyone said is spot on. Pick and choose your criminal and civil liability threshold and do it well.
