i thought yours sounded very good.
the buildups can be done by adding reverb to a cymbal crash. you can take that sound and sample it so that it loops into white noise.

personally i use buildup and breakdown samples to make it less time consuming.
however, if you use a digital synth like Sylenth, there are white noise presets that you can record and manipulate pretty easily.

throw a sidechain on one and then youre money.
