I don't know if anyone agrees with me but my understanding was that sig solicitation was for people to put "e90 post awards, vote"' not to campain for themselves. By doing that, they're getting people to vote for them who don't even know what they're voting for or why. For example, and I don't want to sound mean, but the DC crew says to vote for KL2DC in their signatures for most contributing member, and he only had like 3 nominations compared to other people like E90Fleet and Longtran. It wouldn't be fair if he received a ton of votes and made the disparity between the real top two contenders too narrow to declare a winner, or if he won when he only received a few monimations prior to this whole "campaign jerry springer ordeal". I'm not trying to put anyone down at all, that isn't my intention, I'm just trying to make it fair for everyone.

ok now I think you all are taking this too seriously.
first of all everyone can put something in their sig so it's fair. second, people who actually have contibuted more will have there sig seen more often anway. third, some of the DC Metro members have become a close knit group and some might not bother to vote until they realize thier fellow members are nominated. but if people don't want any info in sigs then I'll take mine off. by the way, besides this thread and the DC regional forum I don't post that much so it's not like many people will even see mine.

Everyone could put it in their sig, but that doesn't mean everyone wants to. I don't know about others but I'm not a big fan of selling myself. Also just because I want a certain member to win in a certain category doesn't mean I feel its right to tell everyone else who has no idea what's going on that they should vote for that person, because that isn't fair to the other nominees.
I don't think I'm taking it too seriously, because it is serious. ThreeThirtyEye has put a real lot of time and effort into these awards and trying to make sure everything is fair and I would hate to see that go to waste.

Nikki...we're just playing around with the sigs if you'd peruse the posts before that you'd have a sense of where all of this is coming from. Don't get me wrong, I'm not up for campaigning myself, but at the same time I don't see anything wrong with campaigning/promoting others, especially my DC metro friends. That's camraderie! That's what we are all about on e90post. The Cal crew has camraderie too, when it comes down to it they too will display the same high level of enthusiasm for each other.
Additionally, all the buzz and clowning around with the sig panels only serve to draw much attention to the actual polls. I think we need this kind of buzz. I don't see the sigs compromising or trivializing threethirtyeye's vision/concept in any way. He knows he has my full support to run this show properly. I know he has put in a lot of thought into it and I remain as serious about it as he is. At the end of the day, there will always be folks who vote on popularity and those who vote on merit, we have no 100% control on that...what we want is for people to vote/participate in the first place.

I know you don't mean to be serious but answer this. Do you think that people will vote for you or anyone in your sig simply because they saw your name there?
If yes, then it is unfair to others who don't feel that it is right to promote themselves or others. If no, then what is the point of it being there? The simple phrase, "E90Post Awards, Off-Topic Banter" seems to get the point across well enough IMO.

At the end of the day, the field of contenders is not fair anyways. I personally don't see how I or almost anyone else can compare to such heavy hitters like E90Fleet with his legendary technical knowledge or Longtran with his renowned mod creativity. Their reputation on e90post are such that they need no introduction or explanation....same can be said for you, you are definitely one who needs no introduction, everyone (old and new) knows Nikki, the artctic princess

Well, we will see. I just don't want any of the results to be like
80 75 30 10 because then those extra 40 votes could have helped to better determine if the person with 80 or with 75 should have won.

um.... If almost NO one knows Dani, except those who've met her IN PERSON... What makes her QUALIFIED to be Miss E90Post? Just wondering...
She's got less than 200 qualified posts... Nikki has THOUSANDS... I guess this post is going nowhere, except VOTE FOR NIKKI! |

haha, well the only other solution i can see is if the results are like that for any category maybe we could have the two with the highest votes in another separate poll, but that seems rather unecessary if it can be prevented ahead of time. if we do decided to have a second poll, we must also say it ahead of time, otherwise in that example, the person with 80 might get very upset if the person with 75 wins in the second poll.
