Absolutely love this concept. Brilliant all round. Don't understand what all the crying is about. Would love to drive this around tomorrow, fantastic.

For years now people have complain about the last generations BMW - for beeing boring and dull.
After the latest homage debut, people goes conservative again. Surely there are elements in this car that's not going to be used. As well as there are features that's easy to trace in the i8. And by this, the prospect from the future BMW and M models seems very exciting and dynamic again. The news about more extreme versions of M versions that's coming is also very welcomed! Sheer up, i think this car is very exciting and promising for the future cars coming from BMW. ![]() ![]()

With people seem to be going off on the design here is some forthcoming facts you should be aware of.
The Concept shows some interesting movements within BMW design. If we start at the front of the car and if we include the Vision Future Luxury also. We see the start of a new trend that enters with the incoming new 7er - The L-shaped headlight and although we will see the feature become more angular with the next 5er and eventually the 3er it indicates all core models will feature L-Shaped headlights. The Concept shows the direction for the Coupe models with the reverse L shape headlight. Many years ago we prepared you for the three dimensional kidney grille which is prominent on many BMW models today. Now we have to prepare you for the larger kidney grille introduced with the Vision Future Luxury. Such a grille will be a feature of the new BMW X7. And as engines become sophisticated they will need more cooling and one potential move is to enlarge the kidney grille which will be seen on future models. But the idea is also to create more hardcore versions of its current M models especially in Coupe format. The first BMW M3 CSL was criticised for being just a standard M3 and the M3 GTS was criticised for being an M3 with an aftermarket spoiler, even though their understated ness illustrated they were far from regular. The concept is to show an internal idea on mixing the past philosophy of CSL with today's advancement in materials to revive the lucrative CSL insignia for the ultimate M models. Which means that the cars will be more definitive than their standard versions even more. The first example to take the exclusive road will be the all new BMW M4 GTS which will be shown as a preview concept at Pebble Beach in August. Essentially the M4 GTS will be a production model of the BMW M4 Safety Car which was the M4 GTS "Concept". In 2016 BMW M will provide its first look at concepts of two models which will wear the CSL badge as well as more pronounced bodywork, Efficiency technology and lightweight features to illustrate exciting and lucrative possibilities for progressive performance.

But let's hope that BMW keeps being committed to the fact that "CSL" stands for "Coupé Sport Leichtbau" (i.e. "Coupé Sport Lightweight"). The "L" in "CSL" does not stand for "Luxury" or "Lucrative".

I applaud the radical designs, but I feel the execution of the design overall is a fail, I just can't get over how ugly the front is.

There are some cool things about it. A HUGE difference would be fixing those front grills and overbite bumper. Not feeling the color because the car is just so bold on its own.

The aerofoil front fenders are horrendous. M235's rendition, and that Volvo, are terrific designs.
I owned and loved a 3.0CS for 29 years. This "homage" is a slap in its kidney grilles. (From the B pillar back this car is phenomenal. But then Mercedes Benz can usually design about 30% of a car, too, and the rest always looks like crap.)

This perfectly sums up how bad BMW's design team has become. Actually, it sums up the entire company - confused with a complete lack of focus or purpose.
It's so ugly I had to double check that it wasn't still April 1st. There are not enough negative words in the English language to describe how bad this is. |

Its that grill!!!
Batman Villian anyone?!? The concept is a good direction and is great in spirit, but the grill is overwhelming. Also if this ever goes into production I cannot imagine how odd I would feel driving a car with such a big bat wing in the back.
You just don't need it nowadays with active aero and the effect of the wing popping up when needed is so much more dramatic than a whopping big surfboard in the rear view mirror. By the way, the yellow color is awesome touch. It really brings back memories of father's CS. |

Much much much (!!!) better !
How does it come the the Designer of that "Hommage" had no clue of Proportions?? There is nothing to "decode" ... it just don't fit! Put those cartoon like Kidney on a 7 series but not on a "small" sports car. I am BMW Guy but the last Cars, Decisions and "News" are just disapointing ![]()

The Good:
- tail lights looks cool - spoiler integration is one of the nicer ones I can remember - headlights look good - bonnet styling is interesting - interior The bad: - failure to cleanly reconcile vertical grills of the e9 with the wide ones of modern day... they wanted to do both and failed, ruining the cars face. Car gives an impression of an otherwise attractive person with a completely messed up nose job - BMWs rears are apparently gonna continue the whole "digesting 911 ass" theme they got started with i8 - id have picked a different, and cooler color, like some dark gray or black to make this car more of a "batmobile" but I get it they want something that photographs well and stands out... - Chrome E39 M5 style rims don't really work With the Homage concept that foreshadowed i8 they were successful, however here they missed the opportunity. But all would be fine if it weren't for squinty eyes with massive nostrils look.

So just to throw some engineering and physics into the discussion about the larger 3-D grill... This quote is just utter crap: "And as engines become sophisticated they will need more cooling and one potential move is to enlarge the kidney grill which will be seen on future models." Internal combustion engines convert energy stored in gasoline into mechanical energy (kinetic energy) though a chemical process of combining oxygen with gasoline and igniting the mixture. One of the by-products of the chemical process is heat; the other is exhaust, which is un-burnt fuel products. One of the engineering challenges of controlling the chemical process is capturing the most amount of energy conversion into kinetic energy and avoiding the loss of energy through heat loss. So in reality a "more sophisticated engine" would be one that generates more kinetic energy and less heat loss (i.e. it would be more efficient - i.e. "more sophisticated"). Less heat loss would mean a smaller cooling system, which would mean a smaller radiator to transfer the heat loss to the air, which would mean a smaller, more aerodynamic grill, not a larger less-aerodynamic grill. Oh, and less emissions... But that said, this car is just a styling exercise, and a disappointing one at that. As a side note, there were a few car companies back in the late 70's and '80's that were trying to create very high-efficient engines that minimized heat loss. One such company was FoMoCo, which was developing ceramic engines. The engineering concept being that a ceramic engine can endure high heat levels from the combustion process which allowed for more energy conversion into kinetic energy and less into heat loss. In other words, the ceramic engine can better burn the fuel and extract more kinetic energy, and produce less combustion by-products such as heat and exhaust emissions. This would be a "more sophisticated engine". BMW builds the i8... Digs up a bunch of conflict-minerals and Kills a bunch of fish to make the carbon fiber in a hydro-electric powered production plant in Washington state.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
