There is no M570i from all we know, all the folks who purchased M550i did so coz there is no more than an I-6 anymore.

It'll be interesting to see how the body is changed changed for the future M5, will the rear arches also be widenened this time around? As a current F90 LCI owner though they'd have to perform some miracles to fix the bulbous shape of the car to get me to upgrade.

The e39 is what got me into BMWs
High quality, looked good. Really as near as dammit a perfect car E60 quality felt like a backwards step, interior didn’t feel like it was made to the same standard as theve39. Styling was shall we say subjective. I skip that generation F10 an improvement and I think today still a very good car. The g30 improved on it, the LCI even more so The g60 mmmmmm |

I5 M60 vs M5 LCI... something about the shape of the new 5er makes it look more like an X model than a wide, sleek saloon.

It is due to the height of the vehicle. Not sure why BMW cannot optimize CLAR better to integrate the battery packs. My Taycan is on a modified Panamera platform, no additional visual height or heft and I get better than EPA mileage estimates (about 260 miles at 85% charge). Other than price, not sure why someone would go for this over the Audi ETron GT or a Taycan.

So a question for you experts:
So this added height we started seeing with the 7er and now this 5er, we are told that this is due to the battery pack? But pure EVs do not have this issue, they are more low-slung than any other platform - Model S, Taycan, etc. Also, the pure EV platform for Mercedes, EQS/EQE are taller as well. So what is exactly going on here? Could be possible that due to the popularity of crossovers, car manufacturers want to make sedans taller, where you are sitting higher, more upright? |

The black trim in the lower front facia is really off putting - it's got so much heft, just adds a lot of bulk to the car. It doesn't work particularly well on the X5/6...it's really unfortunate here. I quickly colored it out (not my best work)

Considering what’s been coming out from Dingledorf, this design is certainly more welcomed…in general. Don’t care for the vertical DRL’s; where did the classic halo BMW-ring variants go? Who said they were sick of those? One thing I truly love that has been removed was an actual stick drive shift selector. At the very least, it’s better than having it in the steering column like MB, which blows my mind that any car company would go back to the days of the ‘3-in-the-tree’. I’m cool with all the tech, but some of the most used features are much faster with an old button/knob/switch. Next, why does the back end look so much like previous generations of MB? BMW could have done much better with the rear taillights to separate its distinctive look from similar cars like MB or Nissan as mentioned by an earlier post. And the most bothersome part of this new lineup is that there isn’t a V8 engine! So, having owned mutliple 550’s over the years, I’m stuck choosing between an anemic 540 or go all electric with the M60 in order to get the same 0-60 (and likely other stats) performance of my current M550. I just hope BMW will continue the long standing tradition of the 550i: the perfect balance of luxury/comfort with power/performance. Well, that’s my opinion anyway. If you read this far, thanks for reading!

might be fairer to compare another m sport at the same angle (from eruo config). but it just makes you appreciate the simplicity of the design while still remaining sporty. The new one is just so fussy.

Well emissions are driving this. I’m sure if these regulation were not in place bmw would be producing more of what we might now call traditional models
Been reading these threads and quite a mixed reception some like it and some do not The more I look at it the more I am disappointed and angry Yes angry because as a bmw fan, I now do not have an aspirational model in mind for myself for the future. Style is subjective which can see in these forums but what annoys me is the ever increasing from over function that we see in products today Non round steering wheel, this is utter bollocks and makes no sense. This is the one item you are in constant contact with the whole time, needs to be round to feed smoothly through your hands as you steer. Making it any other shape is just Maronite. The basic wheel is even worse . Touchscreen control, this makes no sense whilst on the move . Stationary, ok I can accept but on the move? Just plain daft. Aaarrggh BMW , just what are they up to these days Ok rant over I’m fed up now with this car now, time to go and do something more constructive or fun |
