Thanks again to everyone who's been thinking of me. I've met a few of you in real life, and I've gotten text messages or phone calls from some of you. Nice that the online community thinks of me.

There was another earthquake in Nagano this morning, I think 6 or so? Anyway, we're worried the earthquakes are moving south, and Nagano is only 2 hours from where I live. We're preparing emergency kits in case we need water, food, or blankets. Probably nothing, but doesn't hurt to be prepared.

It's a really serious situation here though; there's an odd quietness to going outside. There's not really any noise at all. That said, we're still doing things normally. Our water, electricity, and internet all still work. I had planned on doing a tour of Suzuka today, and walking around the pit areas, and a guided tour of the track, but although the event is still going on, many people have cancelled their trip. I think I will cancel too, as it seems they may cancel the tour altogether since not many people are still involved with the event.

It's strange how fast news gets around. Some of the information posted here was mentioned before I knew it...and I live here!

Excuse my ignorance... But wouldnt a 8 foot wave in Hawaii (assuming thats what they were) be like normal high surf?

Last I was there, I remember watching surf report and hearing 10ft+ waves...

Contrary to what most people think, a Tsunami isn't a wave. In the winter months, we have waves up to 30+ feet in the north shore.

A Tsunami is a "surge"... basically the entire sea level raises by X amount of feet and surges inland taking everything with it.

Big waves:

They break on shore and recede. A tsunami will hit shore, and keep going inland without slowing down.

Actually, you'd be surprised how quickly Japan can recover, sometimes. Consider the Great Hanshin earthquake - it basically destroyed large parts of the Kansai (Kobe-Osaka) area. However, 6 years later, the area was entirely rebuilt, and there was basically no way to tell.

That said, all the best to everyone who lives there... that's some crazy shit that went down.
