Firstly, if the point of DAS was for a significant improvement in straight line speed then all teams would have developed and fitted the device...they didn't because that wasn't the point. DAS had one main benefit, to momentarily adjust the front tyres to toe-in, to add heat evenly to the front tyres during safety car periods and other times when the front tyres had dropped out of the optimum temperature window. DAS was presented to the FIA before the start of the season and cleared for use. Even though it was not against the rules it was only allowed for use for one season before being excluded, under rules specifically set out to cover new innovations. The ban on DAS didn't reduce the Merc cars performance except where front tyre warm up was critical. The changes to the rear floor area for 2021 however was specifically introduced to reduce performance of cars who used a low rake design such as Mercedes. |

But there are so many explanations on DAS on Youtube, also from people that have a 30 year pro racing career in many different classes (both formula and touringcar) and also do 30 years of pitreporting on F1 (thus talking regularly to drivers, engineers and team captains), and if such a person also explains that DAS allows you to set 0deg toe to maximize top speed and how that works...then I tend to believe that person over someone on some forum. Especially if there are lots of videos about the DAS explanation, virtually all emphasizing this effect. And like I said, if DAS didn't gave them an edge, it's particualairly strange that MERC couldn't cope with the relative small changes in rules for the 2021 season. The change in rules is minimal compared to other seasons because of COVID. And that is strange for a team that has a history of virtually always having their car competative early in the season. Lots of budget but not being able to improve like their competition did who copes with the same small rulechanges. Unable to evolve their chassis on the scale that RB did. If the loss of DAS didn't put them in a bad position, it just means they're not as good at their jobs as the people at RB. Loosing to the competition with minimum rule change.

Jus watched the race-
This track tore up the tires, which I’m all for. An added pit stop injects more fun IMO Max and Lewis- oh how turn tables from when Lewis hunted down Max with an extra pit, definitely fun to watch one reeling in another with fresher tires Ferrari has a lot of work to do when it comes to their car chewing up tires, the one lap is there but they always lose places in the race unless the track is really kind to the tires RB/Mercedes was so far ahead of the field that’s it’s ridiculous On a side note, I hadn’t noticed til now but that Walmart logo looks hella weird and out of place on the RB |

This was a very significant win on typical MB hunting grounds. Seems like RB have the upper hand over MB. And remember, in recent years, RB have always been stronger towards the end of the season.

Low tire deg used to be a Ferrari strength, GONE!!! The only substantial engine improvement was accomplish through cheating Compare that to Honda who went from almost worst on the grid to now arguably the best Can't blame the drivers Binotto you SUCK. |

I have nothing for or against Binotto but that top stability is ultra important when there are so many departments and moving pieces under his purview. Ideal changes ever few years is disastrous if they want to stay among the top three. |

The ban on DAS hurt Mercedes only in terms of tyre warm up and tyre wear. Its true you want zero front toe to remove any energy losses resulting from tyre scrub. But when you consider the 1000 odd horsepower that is pushing an F1 car forwards you would have to have a gross amount of toe out for it to have any effect on top speed. However if you can dynamically adjust the toe to stop scrubbing on long straights it will improve your tyre wear rate. Moving to toe-in for the turns heats the tyres back up. |

He said that RB was the most toxic team, and Max was the most toxic driver...
(whatever toxic means....) And that we really didn't know that much about F1 and that's why we were fan of Max. As if that has anything to do with it. I have a very good idea how much respect he's due from me at least. Not because how much he knows or doesnt know, but what kind of person he is saying stupid things like that. Oh yeah, this was an extension of his hindsight blabbering about the exploding tyres and bragging about his job at some pharmaceutical company or something like that. I have no idea why he posted stuff like that. I guess there are people that feel the need to brag about their career and people that don't feel that need... What an idiot.

I prefer the Toto Wolff model. He is a potent driver / manager combination. Don't believe he can drive? Checkout some of his YouTube videos. But no one comes to mind Maybe try a MB senior adviser type like Niki? Even Red Bull has Helmut Marko who was a driver. Rubens Barrichello, too nice Massa, too nice, (Retired) Vettel, strong choice but spent too many years within the team. (Retired) Alonzo, but will he ever retire? Mika Häkkinen Suggestions |

Could Checo be the ultimate wing man? Possibly.
It’s clear that Max respects Checo, and even thanked him over the radio during the race. Class act stuff.
