Which would you rather have? BMW i8 or Audi R8 (MKII)

Actually Ferrari and Maserati are the glorified Chrysler.
Mercedes spun them off years ago.

I prefer the R8.

This is true. Only thing that beat the sound of my e60 M5 was the new owner's voice when he said "I'll take it".

Loved the car more than any other I've owned. Just couldn't sustain the endless bankroll it required to maintain it.

Sorry but seen the i8 many times (I live near BMW NA) and while I'm ok with the looks, not into the whole hybrid - half engine, half battery thing.

although I agree with a lot of folks that these two cars are completely different classes of vehicles, but R8 is a sport car among other sport cars, but i8 is in a different class and category...the first of its kind...again, another pioneer...
and the R8's look is completely outdated...so even if we had to make a choice among similar class vehicles, R8 was clearly not the choice...
and yes, if I had to select a similar type vehicle, a Ferrari or a Jaguar in that category would have been a better choice IMO.

Listen everyone has different priorities in what they buy in automobiles . If you want a high performance sport car the I8 should not be on the list . It can't beat a m235 around a track for two laps much less an r8 . It's an amazing execution of carbon construction but that and it's exotic look is its only draw for many . I'm sorry but for 160k+ it's majorly underpowered , under tired , and not set up for extended hard use . It understeers like a bus and acc dies after 60 mph . It's not a good value as a sports car period . If you want the first of a sports hybrid class ( what it is ) then good for you . it's not going to be a common choice for a sports car enthusiast .

I like the look of the i8 more but I'm pretty sure I'd rather drive an R8.

But at this price point, the real answer is Carrera GTS with a manual transmission.
