Cross trainer or running shoes?

I know this goes in the fitness section but I figured I'd get more answers and quicker here. The question is: for Insanity workout, do you guys use cross training shoes or running shoes? I'm leaning toward the cross training ones but some new balance running shoes have good cushioning for the heel as well as front foot.

Personally, I like cross training shoes for this type of exercising. I find that I need a wider base then a running shoe tends to provide.

^There is no purpose in "cross training" shoes; they just 'look' cool IE: Nike Shox, etc. Stick with real running shoes such as Asics, New Balance, Brooks etc for proper heel support so you do not get injured.

Credentials: I own multiple sneaker businesses and have accounts with all of the above and more companies.

So I should be buying a pair of running shoes for use with the Insanity workout instead of cross training shoes? The program requires a lot of jumping (up and down and side to side) as well as other lateral movements. I'm looking to pick up a pair today.

I was thinking about buying these Asics cross trainers.

If I should stick to running shoes then perhaps these New Balance would do the trick.

Running shoes is your safest bet. I personally wear Asics Kinsei III's whenever I run and/or lift. Your safest bet is to go to a local running sneaker store and measure your instep and the width of your foot. From there they will probably put you on a type of gel and/or machine that measures the pressure points of your arch. From there the personnel will take the data and recommend what sneakers you should get.

Dont be a brand whore when it comes to any sort of athletic shoe... find what fits your feet best and go w/ that...

+1 on the running shoes. Wouldn't do insanity without my mizuno's. But def. personal preference. Go with what's most comfortable for you and GL.

I did Insanity in nike running shoes, but only because it was what I already had for working out. I would have thought cross trainers would have been better suited for the program, but i guess not!

Prefer "cross trainers" just for extra support. There is a lot of overlap now in the designs so that really you should just get a pair that feel good in them. Doesnt matter what the official designation is.

I love my 2010s, great running shoe and works well (for me) in the gym, though I don't jump around that much.

I stick with the Nike Free 5.0 because I love the barefoot(ish) feel and how light they are. My feet hurt like shit when I do calf raises, though, because of the lack of support.

I went to check out the Asics Kayano? shoes as well as the Blur 33. I was gonna go with the blur 33 for the minimalist look but they actually don't look at good in person. They felt a bit tight for me. After looking around I ended up with the Nike Pegasus+ 28. Man those shoes felt so comfortable for me I wanted to put them on right after I bought them.

Thanks again for the help guys!
