I've had a computer that would reboot at inappropriate times (read: in the middle of something important). It turned out to be a memory parity error. I replaced all memory and had no more problems.
Another computer would do similar things but this turned out to be a faulty power supply, specifically, the -5V line was only around -2.75V. Replacing the $35 power supply revived the $2500 computer. BTW, these were desktop models.
