While no one seems to bother with them anymore, Honda might be developing 2 mid engined cars based on the Fit and Accord respectively. This is rumor only, like much news of future Honda cars but it has a lot of people (me included) hoping this is the truth.

the only problem is that honda's engineering in these race-bred cars is decades old...they pulled out of formula one, which where the old NSX, accord, S2000 got its technology and tunning from/early 90's.

HOnda is now basically Toyota...no racing, all comfort.


The new NSX probably wouldn't be worth buying.

According to MT's man in Japan, Honda is planning to use a flip-flopped Accord platform as the basis for its super coupe. You read that right.

While we'd love to see a 400-horsepower, all-wheel-drive NSX hit the market in 2014, we're not holding our collective breath... especially for one based on a backwards Accord chassis.

Honda was never good at F1. It was just Soichiro's vision to push them into it like he did onto other ambitions things.

They had a bit of deterioration from form when they helped Williams in the late 80's - early 90's win championships and 2004-6 when they were contenders but otherwise, their heart is with building wonderful engines with all the other bits preferred to be left to someone else.

NSX and S2000 were sort of born of engineers that sort of understood the Honda "Spirit" from being groomed by the old man, they made these cars and most of them are still with Honda (All of it's CEO's without any exceptions are from R&D).

Overall, it might be happening. I watched the latest Best Motoring and saw the Euro-R (replacement to the genuine, out of production FD2) lose in laptimes in Tsukuba to a Megane and Mazdaspeed 3. The old FD2 in comparison was 3.5 seconds quicker on a 1 minute lap, it would have annihilated everyone except they couldn't put it there due to not being on sale anymore.

That would hurt any Honda Engineer/CEO. Even if you care about profits, you have to do your reputation justice.

f1 really doesn't have much to do with street car.

don't count honda out yet though. the VTEC just kicked in yo.

I like to see a new NSX with 4 adult seats and 600hp v10 hybrid and weight 3200lbs.

See the rest of it. As a factory team, they showed spurts of their typical brilliance before going into hibernation instead of following through and wrapping up the damn championship at least once.

This, when they had the most powerful engine to give to BAR in 2004 was a shame. If you know Honda, you can expect them to be back in a few years, wanting more.

Honda only made the engines, didn't they?

I'm familiar of it, but it wasnt a factory effort. There were only 2 times in history when Honda could have logically "won" in F1, 1964-68 and 2006-08. Despite the Honda badge in the front, that championship is always credited to McLaren, who did the rest of the car.

I also note that they only wanted to make engines, which explains my statement to an extent.

The accord chassis is heavy.

Why wouldn't they produce an all new chassis for their flagship sports car? Or at least use the Honda hsv-10 gt body since that was originally suppose to be the new NSX/HSC.

The problem is the following: the beauty of Honda has always been small super responsive low powered engines in very light cars 1991 accord, civic, nsx, s2000

Now cars are so heavy, a Honda cannot be fun anymore. They're larger engines don't have the same pep and responsiveness the small 2.2l i4's used to

Honda Racing F1 never won any F1 championships, but the engines they've built have.

Its funny how right after Brawn Gp bought out Honda Racing F1, they won the constructors championshp & drivers championship.
