carcash.com
Anyone use carcash.com? Is it legit. My friend looking to get rid of his 2007 Honda Odyssey and was checking out their website. Looks like they quote better than trade in value, but carcash only buys used cars and don't sell them. Is it a legit place and what do they do with all those cars they buy. They claim that the export it or auction it off, but seems like they give higher than auction pricing.

Not in their area, but most urban locations have one or more of this type of business, which may or may not also sell cars to the public. Here is the telling part of their FAQ:
How does 1-800 CAR CASH® determine the value of my vehicle? At 1-800 Car Cash® our pros have created a science out of the buying process. We base our ‘cash quotes’ on visual inspections and the latest, real-time data. You can pretty much be sure that what you get as their "instant quote" and what they actually offer you when you show up with the car will be different. My niece got a couple quotes from the "buyers" in the Bay Area earlier this fall when she wanted to sell her low-miles Accord. She wound up taking it down to the local Honda dealer, where she had been having it serviced, and they bought it for $1,000 more than the best quote she had from anywhere else. I thought she got a fair price; only way to do better would have been to sell it privately, and she didn't want to deal with the hassle. If you are shopping a car around for quotes, sure, why not see what they offer. But if it's "take it or leave it, now", I'd walk out the door. Even Carmax makes their offers valid for a week or so. BTW, Carmax was the one the dealer beat by $1000. The other buyers were under them.... |
