Sorry I can't hear you over your 20% unemployment rate.

Also, how dare you.

We're definitely NOT polite. We're arrogant and rude with a stiff upper lip and bad teeth, and with women with no curves.

(lot of truth in jest though 2bqfh).

If you move to London, I'd recommend selling the car. It will cost you a fortune and there's even a daily tax you pay to drive it in the central parts of the city.

You can get anywhere using the Underground. Far more efficient and cheap.

Also, London has great Ethnic Food Eateries. Never been to India, but some of the best Indian food I've ever had was in London.

From the posts in this thread, I get the sense that you have to be well off just to own a car in London?

i don't know if you have to be "well off" per se. You could probably get away with a Ford Fiesta or Honda Jazz that wouldn't cost too much relatively, but would still be twice as expensive in ownership costs when compared to the U.S. But when you see an Aston Martin on every other block in downtown London, you know those cats have got some serious money.

Same goes for most countries then. My family members back at home don't believe when I tell them that you don't really have to be rich to own a BMW or Benz in the U.S. Hell, leasing even makes it easier.

I've lived in the L.A. area most of my life and this region was designed around private transportation. I had to take the public bus back in high school to get to my job. It took me an hour on the bus what it would've taken 15 minutes via private transportation.

So yeah...I grew to dislike public transportation, haha.

If I do move, this car would definitely be sold for sure. My mom wouldn't drive it because it's a manual so it would just collect dust.

Part of that is the UK financial culture though.

It is considered almost taboo to rent or purchase on finance certain things in the UK. We like to own outright, or at least a large amount.

The % of people who own their own homes is MASSIVE compared to the states. It's like a right of passage for most people to get on the property ladder as soon as they can.

Also to give you a brief idea of the cost of running a car here it is. I'll base stats on my age (21) and on a 325 car.

Insurance: I pay 850 fully comp per year, with 3 years NCD. For a 325 Im looking at double that, so around £1700 per year.
Car Tax: Payable by emissions, so £250 per year.
Petrape: £1.20 per litre roughly. I fill up once a week so works out around £65 per week.

Driving into central london gets you whacked with the 'congestion charge' which is an £8 charge every day you do it, for the pleasure.

Soon adds up.
