My first computer I owned was a Vic-20. I got the memory expander card as well and played with it a lot.

Schools had IIE computers when I was younger. Played a lot of Lode Runner.

First one I touched (and programmed) was an NCR50. It had two 18" disk packs and was programmed using punchcards with the Hollerith code. Now THAT's being ancient.

My first personal computer was an Olivetti PC-clone with an Intell 8086 processor at 4.77 MHZ (yes, MEGA), 256KB of RAM, two 5¼" floppy drives (no hard drive). I paid extra for the color monitor and for extra RAM to 640KB. For $600 I later upgraded to a Seagate 238 harddrive with 20MB of storage but using a RLL controller got over 30MB.

Ha! I love this question.

Mine was a TI 99/4a. Circa 1982. I was a kid and had to save up the $100 to buy it. Unfortunately, I sold it about 5 years later for $20. So a couple years ago, I found one "mint" on eBay and bought it. Guess how much I paid?

Yep, you guessed it. $100. :-)

I have you all beat. 1983. A Sinclair Spectrum.

First PC was a home built thing - sometime around 1992: 486-66 with 8Mb RAM, 1Mb Video card (ISA) big and small floppies, 240Mb Hd, 15" monitor. Cost me $1800! No sound, no CDROM, no modem.

Mine was a DX2-66 - did you have a TURBO button? When i pushed the button, the speed doubled from 33mhz to 66mhz. Happy Days.

I almost bought Osborne 1

and then IBM PC came out. I ended up with an IBM PC with 64K. Then upgrade to 256K with dual drives. I was in heaven then running Wordstar and Lotus 123.

Anyone remember AST, Hercules graphic card

1980 TRS-80 (Trash 80) Model III. 16K, cassette recorder, no disk drive. I was 11 years old. I talked my parents into it after playing with a Model I at summer camp. Compuserve was a dial-up service that had live chat rooms and very limited games. I think it became Netscape.

A couple years later I had it upgraded to 32K, for about $150!

Model III
As a follow on to the Model I, in July 1980 Tandy released the Model III, a more integrated and much improved Model I. The improvements of the Model III included built-in lower case, a better keyboard, and a faster (2.03 MHz) Z-80 processor. With the introduction of the Model III, Model I production was eventually discontinued as the Model I's did not comply with new FCC regulations regarding radio interference. In fact, the Model I's radiated so much RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) that many game companies made their games so you could put an AM radio next to the computer and use the interference to get sounds. The TRS-80 Model III also came with the option of integrated disk drives.
