So if I understand this correctly, Audi lists "Large and deep cupholders in the center console and side door trim" as numer 3 on their "Key Design and Technical Features" list.

Only 1 surprise on that brochure. Engine is getting a 10hp bump on the S.

The A5 seems so underpowered. I have no idea how that's supposed to compete with the 335, IS350, or G35 which all boast HP numbers over 300. Just makes no sense to me how Audi thinks they can get away with that.

The S5 has a lot of power but it's a V8 and will likely cost a lot more than the 335. So given that, is it supposed to be an M3 competitor?

I really like the look of the A5 but after seeing those numbers, if I hadn't gone with the 335, I would have gone with Infiniti instead. There's no way I could accept an engine that's so underpowered compared to the competition.

Not too impressive on the power numbers. Probably wont be much faster than the current S4. Maybe they are conservative in anticipation of a RS5?

Yeah, how do they get the 0-62mph in 5.1 sec. if it weighs as much as the S4 and has the same engine? I think only the RS5 will be something to deal with, but it will likely cost $70k+! Does Audi just NOT update and tweak their engines much? If they were really smart, they would add twin turbos to the 3.2L 6cyl. from the A4/A6 (much like BMW did for the 335i) and put that in the A5 and/or S5. Then, they'd have a real competitor!

maybe they will surprise everyone on price. if the A5 can be had for under 40k nicely optioned, i think it will be alright, even with that "weaker" 265hp engine. Their V6 with fsi is a beautiful engine and to many people, outright hp isnt that big a deal. Now, if its right in line with the 335xi in terms of price (~47k nicely optioned), then they have a problem.

Agreeing with everyone that the HP numbers do sound low, but my friend told me that the RS5 is confirmed..

The A5 is putting out 265hp, that's above the 325/328/330 (plus the none U.S. engine levels BMW offers). More then enough power for their "entry level" coupe.

The S4 is no longer Audi's top dog. It, along with the new S5 are geared towards the 335, IS350, and G35. These vehicles basically fill that large gap between base engines putting out mid 200's and the 400+hp club.
Though I do agree that going the route of the V8 is a poor choice on Audi's behalf. Audi is known for their wonderful turbo 4's. I would like to see the S4 return to the twin-turbo V6 setup from the B5 platform. Massage that and you have the power of an 8, with better fuel economy.

I don't think Audi is any longer trying to match the S car against the M3. That's the RS4/5's job.

+1 This coupe would be awesome if it were turbo charged.... Audi insists on stuffing their crappy V8 (except RS4) on every platform......

The biggest problem I have with the V8 is the weight. The V8 + Quattro completely screws up the weight distribution and the handling......might as well stuff lead ingots upfront.....

265 is still 10 more than the a4, but even considering hp, the price may not be horrible, but my past experiences with audis are horrible, worst servicing ever, all in all the car looks pretty sexxy yet conservative

haha -- you'll most likely just get some receptionist who's response is "huh... what's an A5?"
I'd have better luck stopping by there on Monday morning.
