Atlantis = Disney of the Caribbean. If that is what you are looking for. Otherwise, there are a ton of places to go. If you haven't been before, you can hop on a cruise and it will take you all over the Caribbean.

it really depends what your looking for more specifically...how old are your kids? 4 or 14? the Caribbean is full of nice beaches and snorkling spots...are you looking for an all inclusive?! if so then dominican republic has your ticket...punta cana specifically...you get the most bang for your buck there...great resorts, great beaches, short flight (from phila or nyc) and they are loaded with super all inclusive for one price....jamaica has the same all inclusive style resorts as well...all inclusive resorts cater to the families as well as groups...turks and caicos is gorgeous...laid back...nice beaches...kinda expensive tho...
if you feel a little froggy and want to venture off into the island, and experience some local flavor then you may have to tweak your plans a lil bit...go to puerto rico, rent a car, take the family to a rain forest, aruba is well aruba....cant go wrong at all...they have exactly what you want... i had a wedding down in riveria maya, iberostar....mega super all inclusive resort, didnt have to leave at all....the resort itself has like 8 restaurants, a pool the size of an airplane hanger, every non motorized water sport for free...the resort is so big they have complimentary golf carts to take you from bar to room, restaurant to beach, beach to room....riveria maya on the gulf side of mexico is kinda cool...dont know if the oil spill will effect you much...still kinda far but its a straight shot to cancun, then a 30 min drive south....if you wana get away from wifey for the night then head to cancun ha... ive used expedia like 12 times for trips....huge site, i trust it...you can search vacation packages by style (romance, family, adventure, beach, luxury....even if you wanted a romantic luxury family resort on the beach they will have a search specifically for that ha)...you will get a good deal regardless because its summer down there and f'n hot! you could always go to newark....its lovely this time of year! |

Do a cruise...get to see everything, maybe even more if you get one that goes down to Panama/Colombia, and you can either venture out to the islands or hang out and relax on the ship. Honestly, the Colombia and Panama were the highlights of the Caribbean cruise my family took a few years ago (for me at least), the duty free zone in Cartagena is pretty crazy too...my dad bought my mom a crazy emerald there and got it set up here for like 2/3 the price of a pre-set emerald that's much smaller

But if you're in to sampling the culture of Jamaica, Negril is the place. Very laid back, not as much hussle-bussle as Montego Bay, and even the cabbies sell decent sheeit. However, for the best of the best, go to Ted's. And where's Ted's do you ask. Everyone knows where Ted's place is, so just hop in a cab and ask. You'll get a big nod and a smile from the cabbie, just nod and smile back!

The Bahamas are not the Caribbean, they are in the Atlantic off the East Coast of Florida. It depends what you are looking for. If you just want to chill and soak up some good food and culture, go to Tortola. Long Bay Beach Resort is great. Really low key and relaxing. Great beach bar called Bomba's Shack. On full moon there they serve mushroom tea (yes the fun mushrooms) and there are endless amounts of women just naked walking around. If you want an intense, partying vacation, the guy who said Atlantis on Paradise Island is correct.

We took the family to a Sandals in Ocho Rios, but not the monster-huge one. We were in about a 150 room resort, but still had access to the big one.
The lady making omelettes knew just how I liked them by the second morning, and knew my kids' names by the 3rd. The bartenders knew just how I liked my Cuba-libre by the end of the first day. The entertainment directors knew just how far they could push my kids to participate in events to free the parents for some time together. We also went to the Moon Palace in Cancun, another all0inclusive. It was just a little farther than I liked to walk to the dining area/pools, but the food was killer! For dinner you pick which cut and which steak you wanted, then tell them how to grill it. Pick out lobster, scallops, shrimp, mussel and they cook them up right there for you. Any more, it's All-inclusive or nothing. . . on vacation I more than make up for it on drinking and eating. |
