Good sites to order flight tix from?

A couple of friends and myself are planning on taking a few trips in the summer. (Domestic, staying in the U.S.)

None of us have ordered air plane tickets online before so if any of you folks have recommendations, I would appreciate it!

I use Expedia but I very rarely need hotels when I travel, which priceline is sort of most known for but Expedia offers too. When I compare flights between all of the search engines they seem to be pretty consistent IE Expedia will have the same flights as Priceline and for the same prices...not sure how well that holds true for hotels though.

I usually use Kayak...It searches ticketing websites and then directs you to those sites.

I usually use expedia. If I'm doing JetBlue I just book it from their site.

As I'm based near Seattle, I usually check Alaska Airlines first for any trips I need to take. If they can't cover it, I'll use Expedia to check options, but then book directly with whatever airline I've chosen for the trip. I find it too difficult and too much hassle if I have to change a ticket when booked through anything other than the airline itself.

Southwest (which I won't fly, nor have I flown in over 20 years...) is only available through their website, and I think JetBlue may be the same way.

So far, I've NEVER seen a ticket cheaper on Expedia, Travelocity or Orbitz than the direct airline website.

Incorrect...just booked a ticket from JFK to ORD through Jet Blue on Expedia and have many times before...but given this is the most popular route in the country they may selectively offer their rates to 3rd party search engines...

I've never found my AZ TO JFK tickets cheaper on any sites so I just order through JetBlue directly.

i use travelocity to search for the lowest and book directly with the airline. depending on the airline, it can be better this way. with delta, for example, if you need to cancel or change a restricted ticket within 24 hours, you can do so without charge if you booked through delta.

Ah, good to know. However, I rarely fly JetBlue, which is why I didn't know they released seats to websites. Cool airline, I really enjoyed the flights I've taken, but they just don't go where I need to go.
