That is a nice bike. But if you're going to get into it, why not go all the way and get a road bike. You are going to want drop handle bars eventually.
I started riding last summer. I signed up for a 40 mile race this summer. Doing about 20 miles on an average ride. Rode up to 30 on monday. Its pretty great excersize. Here is my bike. I've upgraded a few parts on it including some nice easton wheels.

I am.
I've got one of these (European market only so I had to order it from the UK): I will however be selling it this year and getting a full on road bike (lemme know if you are interested ). I bought this as a transition from mt. biking to road biking. I have a bad back and no longer feel comfortable doing it anymore, but wanted to get back on a bike for the exercise. Plus I thought that the upright seating would help with back pain. |

I love playing in the dirt, but I bought a road bike this winter. Trails were too muddy, and it is getting harder to find time to drive the Mt. Bike to the trail head. With the road bike you just have to open the garage.
I bought a Trek 2.3, I couldn't justify going carbon for my first road bike. Up to about 12 miles the Bontrager saddle is ok, but beyond that I couldn't stand it, numb wenis. I had to upgrade to a new saddle with a different shape (Specialized) and that helps. |

They have 25 mile, 75k, and 100k distances. I'm doing the 75k with friends. I like your ride. Get a new saddle ASAP and you will be much happier.
