Did Walmart make a deal with the IRS?
Wifey was doing out taxes today with Turbo Tax, as always. When she went to file electronically, it asked her if she wanted direct deposit or a Walmart gift card. WTF?? So does the IRS send your refund to Walmart in exchange for a gift card? It's not like we bought the software at Walmart. How the phock did they swing this deal?
Anyone else using TT see this?

Tru dat. And the last "rebate" I got from Verizon was in the form of debit cards. I used them to buy Amazon.com gift certs so I could get what I wanted without the hassle of trying to use up exactly $50 and not a penny more.
Still, that was totally Verizon, so it was understandable. But what mechanism is in place with the IRS-TurboTax-Walmart to allow this to happen. What if you call the IRS in 3 months and claim you never got your gift card?

Right. But how does the money that is coming from the IRS get turned into a Walmart gift card? The money has to get from the IRS to either Turbo Tax or Walmart. Neither seems kosher.

Potentially pregnant hookers do not go to walmart looking for pregnancy tests. They go to buy gin. |

Of course he's not with the IRS. Mighty M's response would not have been civil because the IRS obviously has nothing to do with the Wal-Mart gift cards and the fact that the OP thought otherwise was driving him crazy. Thankfully, GreenPlease saved the day.

EDIT: Apparently TT offers a Walmart debit card. They open a debit account in your name for the amount of your refund and have the IRS send your refund to the account. As long as there is an account and routing number, the IRS will send money there.

Uh oh I didn't pay that... am I gonna get hunted by the IRS?? lol
If you think about it, they should give you a rebate for driving a turbo car, we are being more efficient than an N/A car.... food for thought.

I bought TT direct from Intuit, they offered a "Turbo Tax" refund card. Looks like the card offer is dependent on where you purchased the app.
