It won't start. It'll give you a key not detected message between the gauges. A key has to be detected inside the car before the car will start.

Likewise, a key has to be detected outside of the car before the car will lock via the ridges (and unlock, obviously).

The only way I can see this happening regularly is if he also used to forget to take the key out of the ignition before he had CA.

Is he having any other problems?
- Forgetting to lock the front door?
- Forgetting his address?
- Forgetting what day it is? What year it is?
- Forgetting names of close friends & family?

It could be a sign of a larger issue.

Nope tried it... you can still drive away without the key.
Assuming you leave the door unlocked for someone to gain access.
