X1 and Z4 named to Top Ten 2010 World Car And World Performance Car Finalists List
The BMW X1 has made the 2010 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) Award finalist list and the BMW Z4 has made the 2010 Performance Car of the Year (PCOTY) Award finalist list. 31 cars were originally nominated for the WCOTY award and 15 cars for the PCOTY award. The winner of each category will be announced April 1st at the New York International Auto Show.
The "World and Performance Car of the Year Awards" is now in its seventh year and the voting is done by a group of automotive journalists from around the world. 59 judges will pick this year's winners. A car has to be in production and sold in 5 or more countries (and on 2 or more continents) to be eligible for the awards. 2010 World Car of the Year top ten finalists: Audi Q5 BMW X1 Chevrolet Cruze Kia Soul Mazda3 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Opel/Vauxhall Insignia / Buick Regal Porsche Panamera Toyota Prius Volkswagen Polo 2010 Performance Car of the Year top ten finalists: Aston Martin V12 Vantage Audi R8 V10 Audi TT RS Coupé / Roadster BMW Z4 Ferrari California Jaguar XFR Lotus Evora Mercedes-Ben z E 63 AMG Nissan 370 Z Porsche 911 GT3 Porsche Boxster / Cayman

Depends, if price is a factor I think the 370Z has a decent chance as well.

Give Polo the first spot.
I think the Ferrari or the R8 V10 would take the performance spot but I don't think the V10 has been liked as much as the V8. |

This is true about the V10 R8, though it only has a slighty heavier engine than the V8 this does have a knock on effect on it's handling balance. Though that being said it still is one of the best handling mid-engined cars currently on sale.
