Are iPhone GPS lap timers any good?
Hello,
I am looking for GPS lap timer and data logger options. Is anybody using anything like that here? Recommendations on what to pick and what to avoid? Based on a quick web search, the two most popular options are Harry's Lap Timer as a cheap solution for those who already have an iPhone or a ~$1000 TraqMate / or VBox data loggers. Now I am sure those who have spent the big money on the laters will be the first to tell me that that's the only way to go, but really? Or do iPhone lap timer apps work good? Please advise. Thanks!

The GPS reception on the Iphone is weak. I tried it at laguna and it could never get precise enough to capture the same point twice, hence some laps included multiple circuits. if it had worked then Harry's offers some damn good features. Worthless for me though.
They do sell a GPS mount which is supposed to improve the reception of the phone but it alone costs 130, plus the tom tom app at 50 for a semi decent gps system. |
