Wow. Check out that snazzy interior with the mood lighting.

It does bug me a little to see that crease along the side get incorporated into other models, but c'est la vie.

The rear quarter view reminds me of the 1st gen Toyota Prius (general shape/stance)

The styling elements are too busy and not cohesive. Why can't they bring in the euro version as-is and be done with it (bring the ST versions as well).

What was the reason to make a completely new Focus for the US-market?

We have a MK II Focus since 2004 in Europe and it`s a very nice car:

The picture shows a Focus ST with 5 cylinder engine from Volvo.

But the new US-Focus is ugly and the Coupé reminds me of a Chevrolet Cobalt.

The Sedan looks acceptable, but the front and rear must be designed by different guys.

Is this an accident in car design or the american taste?

Nudel...for some reason the Big Three has (mostly) little faith in the tastes of US auto consumers. Witnessing GM and Ford products in Europe, Asia and Australia, we know they are capable of making great products with high appeal As for the Focus sedan, Ford would argue that americans are hatchback-phobic...

And when they do bring in euro based products like the outgoing focus, the mystique/contour nee Ford Mondeo, the Pontiac GTO nee Holden Monaro, they somehow screw up the packaging mix and marketing.
