You are right there.

I just think that this would have been a good opportunity for Audi to up the bar and do something special with the styling on the S4 especially with the return to forced induction.

Never was a true word spoke. Though the S4 is an impressive car it's as a very bland one too, with nothing shouting out 'look at me I'm special'. Which is a shame because it really is the best car in it's class.

With all the stuff I'd want, it would cost me 60k lol but I like it. There's a lot of potential for this car under the hood. Saw a old gen s4 yellow and for some reason..... i like it haha!

I hope the tuners do work their magic on it but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. According to sources, only 3000 S4's are coming to USA. I'm pretty sure more 335i's are sold then that number.

Anyway, eventually the tuners will join in as this engine will be optioned in many other audi's as well.

Wow I just BUILT MY OWN S4 and the seats are sexy with the alcantara inserts. Even sexier is the fact that its a free option. Carbon Fiber trim is just a $500 option thats cheap compared to BMW's CF Trim. I wish BMW offered options like that for the 335i.

I went on to both the Audi and BMW USA websites to build an S4 and 335i. I was surprised to see how little the price difference was when both models were specced as most people would want them. The Audi still was the dearest but the difference was only $4k and with it you get real Carbon fibre trim and 19" allys which look the business. You also get in with that price, the 7speed DSG gearbox, a Sportsdiff and Quattro.

Am I missing something?

I thought you lot said Audis were all over priced in the US.

In the past years Audi has not been competitive with its pricing, which is why this has seemed to be a trend. But the B8 S4 has broken the trend, which is vital in order for it to be competitive with the 335. Good work audi.

They used to be. The previous S4 was close to M3 money. I said when they droped the V6 from the A4 that Audi was going to bring the price of this S4 down to compete with the 335. That will allow the RS4 to be close to the M3's price.

The last gen RS4 could get oevr 100k in Canada, with the M3 in the 80's, Audin knew they had to do something unless they wanted to be a niche player in the segment.

Am I doing something wrong here?

To get an S4 equipped how I like it, and without any unecessary fluff, has the price coming out to be just a smidge under $60k. The multi drive select and rear differential are expensive options.

Don't think you can compare those options to a 335i, since there's nothing available like that.

Pricing very competetive given it's pretty clearly a couple steps ahead of the 335, apparently even keeping up or besting it in tunability. 100hp without driving the SC harder is impressive.

That's the thing though. The differential and multi-drive select are both options that seem to be what gives it the edge in comparos. I'm just looking at it objectively and making an observation, that's all.

They're both basically necessities. Jacks the price up right away.

Hmm, maybe I'm doing something wrong, I'm still under 50k with the drive select/rear differential options. It's only a $1,100 option.

I don't think the new S4 is supposed to be a "special" car. Seems to me like the 2.0T is equivalent to the 328 and the S4 is equivalent to the 335. As great as we all think our 335s are, are they really "special"? To get a special 3 series you have to step up to the M3; similarly, to get a special A4 you have to step up to the RS4.

Ok, so the final price depends largely upon whether or not you choose to get the Audi Drive Select package, which I chose.

If you go premium, and not prestige, you're not given the choice of choosing that option, so you have to go for the latter.

My total for a premium 6mt model spec'd how I'd have one (no active cruise or stuff like that) came out to be $52k.

Here's how I'd have one though, and it comes out to $58k. Comes down to having to choose premium (base of $52k) and ADS.

Your Audi S4 Total Price $ 58,275

Engine
S4 Prestige 3.0 TFSI quattro
333 HP 6 speed $52,000

Exterior
Sprint Blue, pearl effect $ 475

Interior
S sports seat Silk Nappa leather Tuscan brown black

Equipment
Audi drive select package $ 3,950
Carbon Atlas decorative inlays $ 500
Rear side airbags* $ 350
Silk Nappa leather

I've driven both a full equipped Audi Select drive car complete with steering system, DSG control, suspension control and Sportsdiff and a car with none of these, it only had DSG and 19" alloys. The suspension setup is a waste, the car rode as well as my M3 on 18" and EDC, the steering is meant to be good but takes time to become use to. The only thing that I can honestly say is a must have is the Sportsdiff, you really noticed it's effect when you push it.

It's the only really worth while option for the keen driver, and of course the DSG which works perfectly. Even the 19" are worth the difference because they don't seem to affect the ride that much.

The final price of the car all depends only whether you feel the need to go the whole hog and get the prestige version.

Bimmer Loyalist,

When you get the chance to drive one I bet you'll love the engine/exhaust note, sounds a lot like a 997 which couldn't be described as a bad thing now could it. Also the seats are way better than the ordinary ones you get in the 335i and I bet you'll love the steering wheel, something Audi do very, very well, it's got a lovely feel to it.
