DUI question

If I have a DUI conviction on my record will the insurance on my moms car go up if the car is registered in my name but she drives it and she is the only 1 on the insurance policy?

I don't know how you can register the car under your name and not be in the insurance policy.

Assuming there was no accident involved in the DUI, your insurance should go up, not your mother's. If you don't have insurance under your name now, it would be really expensive when you do get a policy.

Let's take it one step futher. If you don't have a policy under your name and you get in an accident, then your mother's policy would have to cover the damages. Then in that case, your mother's policy would go up.

I'm assuming you bought the car under your name but your mom carries the insurance as she's the primary driver and you have your own policy, right?

If so, it doesn't matter who's name the car is registered to. It's who's on the insurance policy and who the primary driver is. Since you're not on her insurance it should be fine.

The insurance company may require the insuree to sign a document that excludes you from driving the insured vehicle.

The insurance company usually wants to know about people who regularly drive the car to formulate an accurate premium but the law in the US is such that it isn't required to be included in the policy if you don't live at the same address as the policy holder (as long as you have the permission of the insured to drive the car).

If they don't know you, there is no way for them to increase the premiums on your mothers insurance. Its your policy i would be worried about.
