Dilenma...Frequent flyer programs

so..i have several frequent flyer cards.

I used to use AA advantage a lot. and have 5,000 miles left to be gold member.

But now I moved to SF area and the most flight i take is United. I have about 30,000 miles on UA program.

so i am debating if i should make a reservation for Orlando trip through AA or UA. if i fly with AA, i think i can get a gold card from this trip.

but then, i wont use AA much anymore and elite status will expire in an year. so can't really justify...so maybe i'd rather use 45,000 miles i have for free ticket or something.

so what do you think? should I book UA flight? or AA?
I kinda convinced myself as I am writing this up...but just wanted to hear your opinion

Book UA and here is why:

Unless you fly often on Amercian dont worry about the elite status and use miles for free tix. I fly from DFW to Cali every week and I am Platinum. I hardly ever get to upgrade because there are so many Executive Plat. The reason I mention that, is being Gold won't get you that much.

It gives you the opportunity to upgrade behind Executive Plat and Plat. Elite status really only benefits people that fly all of the time on on a specific airline.

Yeah, go with UA ticket.. If you are not going to be flying AA then you need to put your effort into building your new account with UA.. Burn up any remaining AA points & be done with it...

I don't know if Southwest services where you travel, but that airline + SW credit card = much easier to get free tix...

i dont know if they still offer this but AA made my dad a Gold Member for life because he flew over 1,000,000 miles with them in 5 years.

I changed over to Capitalone Visa Signature where you pay $39 a year but double the points for each dollar so well worth it for me. Best bang for your buck so far!
