Definitely hate my 1994 E36 318i, but maybe not as much as the 2001 X5 4.4i I used to own. The build quality in both was lacking, but the X5 gave me a ton of trouble (MAF, control arms, brake calipers, radiator, etc. etc.) before the CPO warranty was up. I traded it at 99K+ miles; did not want to be responsible for that beast off-warranty.
The 318i runs fine, but has many little issues like the pot-metal door pulls that break inside the door, cheap plastic everywhere, and more squeaks and rattles than you can shake a stick at. Plus it's kinda ugly... The list: 1987 325e coupe (still own) 1994 318i sedan (still own) 2001 X5 4.4i (traded) 2003 325i sedan (traded) 2003 530i (traded) 2007 Z4 3.0si coupe (my baby) |

Have only ever owned this one - 3 1/2 years now. Love the car, makes for a great DD that gets tracked a few times each season. Easily over $6,000 in extras on it now (more than I paid for the car) and can't stand to part with it.
Probably won't be owning another BMW for a few years honestly. I was really close to pulling the trigger on an '03 530i after I sold my Chrysler 300C, but opted not to. Next car will most likely be '09 Cadillac CTS.
