Mazdaspeed 3
So why won't mazda stuff the Mazdaspeed 3's engine into an MX-5 Miata? I know the 3 is a FWD. But couldn't the engine could be put in lengthwise for the rwd platform of the Miata? The last thing I need is a third car, but I'd be tempted to buy one if Mazda did this.

I'm right with ya man!!! I've been saying this forever. I would've seriously considered a Mazdaspeed MX-5 if the game out with the damn thing. My guess is that they're waiting to release it when the MX-5 only has a couple years of production left (just like they did with the last iteration).

I think Mazda wants to maintain the cheap, light, and fun mx-5 image. Giving the car a stock turbo makes it seem almost too serious for a miata. Just my opinion at least.
Maybe weight and price considerations? Also the last mazdaspeed mx-5 tanked in sales so Mazda is probably going to be more careful with a new one, if at all. I do see them making one eventually though, to compete with the Saturn Sky Redline and Pontiac Solstice GXP. Last edited by Kenix; 04-12-2009 at 06:15 PM.. |

The rx-8's forte is handling over power and I think mazda should stick with that rather then turn it into a 370z mimic. I'd trade power for handling feel anyday. Plus, the rx-8 is worlds ahead in practicality, so it doesn't need to boast a huge powerplant in order to "compete" with the z.
And 300hp/220lbft would be more than enough to compete with the 370z. In fact, seeing how at 235 hp, the rx-8 is already serious competition, at 300hp, it would trounce the 370z. |
