2002 M5 Help

Hi everyone, hope all is well.

So I might be adding another car to the garage and was hoping I can please get your help when it comes to the e39 M5s; I have searched around, but don't know which keys words to search for.

I was hoping you could please let me know what are things which I need to pay close attention to before purchasing the car?

Thank you in advance and I will be sure to post pictures if the deal goes through.

VANOS problems! But if it's a 2002 you should be fine. Try and get a low mileage Pre-CPO car. Low mileage E39's can be had for low 20

As an 03 M5 owner, I'd say go over to M5Board. The car is great, Vanos is an issue on early cars, no so much on later cars. Mass Air Flow sensors go out as do o2 sensors. Things leak, it burns through rear tires, but I don't mind

I love my E39 M5, and M5Board is a wealth of info. My friend here in town has 130K miles on his M5, so just make sure it's been well maintained, and it will take care of you. Part are more expensive than a normal 5 series. Budget for about $1,200 in annual maintenance (beyond oil and tire changes).

Secondary air pump is a common in M5, some require a valve job.
