Jaguar XF3.0dS & XFR

Just come back from a Jag driving day for the new XF and XFR. All can I say is that my opinion of Jag has went up ten fold.

First the XF with the new 3.0d 275hp model, is it as good as BMW's 35d or is it possibly better?

Yes to both and here's why, the delivery is more instant than the 35d and it near enough silent when driven normally with only the slightest diesel clatter entering the cockpit at full throttle. Part of this improve might be down to the gearbox which works seamlessly with the engine, it's definitely a better executive car than a 535d but it one and only downfall is no sports seats. Apart from that it's the dog's bits.

Next the XFR, if you ever had the opinion that the M5 is the best in class and wish to keep that opinion then don't drive an XFR, the thing is in another class as far as marrying both the sporty and luxury halves of these class of cars (mid executive) and not even the RS6 or E63AMG can come close. Amazed is the one word that sprung to mind and I bet BMW are using it as it's bench mark for the next M5.

Sorry I failed to get you shots of the XFR, when I ran to the car to get my camera someone had already gotten into the car and when on a test drive which would have meant waiting another 20~25mins for the car to return.

No it's not as involving as the BMW, the steering in the ordinary model is quite light (think Audi) but once you get pass this you will find a very polished motor car.

As for fit and finish, I was in the Portfolio which had the best leather and the nicest wood trim, I thought it was miles better than my M3 and right up there will what Audi produce.

P.S.
The B&W audio system is also incredible, vocals on radio is exceptionally clear with no booming from bass which is the norm when a system is fitted with subs. As for music through the ipod, well I think you would need to look to either Lexus or possibly the A8 B&O system to get any better.

It has a 1990's Chrysler "cab forward" feel to its front end, and almost Buickesque exterior styling, but the interior is great. It's a good car; I just wish they would have done better with the RWD proportions.

Id give the CTS-V the winning nod in this section, faster then all of those cars, with a bimmer beating interior. It deserves some respect
