Do you realize how menacing one of those things is going to look coming up in your rearview??? I might have to look at an R/T (depending on the fuel economy and given the warranty)... I'll take mine in black.

I've got 5w20 oil in my Acura and it seems fine. That's what they recommend now. The 3.2L in the earlier 01's and 02's CL's didn't have 5w20, but acura switched to the 5w20 with the reasoning that it give both better mileage and emissions (not sure it's that's true, but that's acura's story). Looks like rwd coupes are making a comeback... |

PS - Do you think the 1-series will hurt the resale of the 2002s? |

You already know there's going to be tons of aftermarket goodies for the Charger. The 5.7 is a twin plug engine, so its got a very reliable ignition. That's a leftover piece of Mercedes-Benz DNA by the way. |

Do American designers have any new ideas? Is this Hollywood rehash? The Challenger got done right 35+ years ago. IMO, derivative. And the 135i is not derivative of the 2002, that's BMW marketing BS.
IMO.

BMW's all look like they derive their style from previous BMW's. It is suppossed to be that way. Otherwise BMW folks get upset. Read the posts here at 1addicts about the photoshopped 2009 3 series. Retro is in, by the way. BMW derived a recent marketing success from an old, tiny British car. VW has their New Beetle. Ford made the Thunderbird and the current Mustang. Chrysler has the PT Cruiser. Chevrolet has the HHR, SSR and the next Camaro. The Jeep Wrangler is derivative of the original military vehicle and is loved for it. I would guess that the 35+ year old Challenger won't perform as well as the new one. |

Don't forget about the new Fiat 500 (another extremely retro design) that just won the Euro car of the year for 2008. Here's a clip from the official press release...
"The international jury presiding over the ‘Car of the Year’ award, made up of 58 specialist journalists from 22 European countries, has selected the Fiat 500 “Car of the Year 2008” with 385 votes, ahead of the Mazda 2 (325 votes) and the Ford Mondeo (202)." |

That car is playing a "Siren's song" with me. I've owned a FIAT and should know better but that thing is really tugging at me (especially the Abarth variant). Now all we need is for Al Cosentino to start cranking out his totally bizarre Faza Forza ads.

Since the Challenger pre-orders began today (Monday 12/3/07), several people are independantly reporting that they are encountering prices of MSRP + $30,000 dealer markup.
Supposedly 1st year (very late) model run will be limited to 5000 cars, all of which are SRT8 packages. I called both my local dealers, one was completely clueless, the other was damn near clueless. |

Standard features and options were released today...
Buyers who shell out $40,095 (plus what's likely to be a staggering dealer surcharge) for the 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8 can at least rest in the knowledge that the cars they're getting are loaded to the gills with standard features. In fact, there are only three options. For $50, you can upgrade to summer tires (all-season performance rubber is standard). $890 replaces the base head unit with the MyGig infotainment/navigation system, and $950 adds a power sunroof. Everything else is part of the standard equipment list -- even a stint at the SRT Track Experience. Head on over to Allpar to see the complete rundown, which includes the minutiae like "6.1L badge." More info on the Challenger is coming very soon, so keep your eyes peeled as Chrysler gets into full ramp-up-the-excitement mode. |

More details with teaser images on the Dodge website. Very nice. The 1 series is a smarter choice, but I want a Challenger.

We've already had discussions about quality of modern cars. The difference in initial quality between 1st place and last (36th) place is 0.79 defects per car. That Car rides last generations Mercedes E-class platform. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Just going off of previous ownership of Dodge vehicles, put more miles on the driving back and forth to the dealer than anything else. They left a bad taste in my mouth that will make me never even consider one again no matter who merges with the brand (and then seperates again a short time later).
They built two poor vehicles and their service was just as bad or worse, therefor my opinion is what it is. Not better or worse than anyone elses. BTW their displacement on demand is a sham as well.
