There are some pretty good bagel chains in SoCal. Western Bagel probably has the best toppings (love their Jalapeno bagels) but the bread itself can be a bit dull and sometimes dry. Noah's Bagels doesn't have the same killer toppings, but seems to have a bit tastier and chewier bread stock. I'm pretty fond of their Blueberry and specialty cheese bagels. Both are on the weekend going-out-for-breakfast rotation.

Even though California is thousands of miles away from the New York bagel nexus where I was raised I actually like the bagels we get in CA better.

Hey, true enough. But I spent 18 years eating the "traditional" New York bagels. They're fine and dandy, but mixing them up with all the other California cuisines can be pretty darn tasty. These days I'll take the tasty imitation over the dry boring original.

But don't listen to me, I like California Pizza Kitchen pizzas more than the real thing from down in Little Italy too...

Yeah...where I live we get fresh bagels though, from the store. None of the frozen Lender's crap.

Either Einstein Bros Bagels or just pick some up in the bakery section at Frys/Kroger.

Oh, and Asiago Cheese, Sesame, or Poppyseed.
