Losing Job, how to get let go early?

Hey , a friend of mine if losing his job because his site is shutting down. How can he get laid off early and still collect unemployment?

he should qualify for un-employment if the plant/company is closing

I thought if he leaves voluntarily he doesnt qualify for unemployment. or if you get fired.

I would just stick it out til the end. He should be getting a severance check and then unemployment checks.

Have him ask his boss if he'll lay him off sooner.

reminds me of the scene in Fight Club but Ed beat himself up and got a huge settlement. Sweet
