Anyone Ever Own An 8 Series (e31)??
I've seen some on AutoTrader and other places for < $15,000. I personally think it is the greatest BMW ever built (Alpina B12 to be exact ) and would love to own one. I know it has certain problems that will come up that will require big $$ like gaskets, but overall how is it? What about mileage? How expensive are parts/maintenance and how available are they? Thanks
BTW I'm looking at a 1991 850Ci

Most. Beautiful. BMW. Ever.
I see one around my place every once in a while, can't stop staring as he drives past.

I agree 100%. On the way to Daytona Beach, a black Alpina B12 flew past me (I mean really flew and I was going 95). I can say without a doubt that it was the the highlight of my trip

It really is a gorgeous car. Later down the line a purchase, well at least for me, will happen for an 8.
If you have the spare cash I'd say go for it. Make sure you have enough set aside for the maintenance though. |

Maybe the V12 is great to drive, but my friend had the V8 and I was unimpressed when I drove it. It was extremely not very fast, and I know that the car lived in the shop. I talked to owner of the dealership he and I go to, and he said that those cars were made in BMW dark time with terrible quality control. He said he paid a lot of overtime in the mid '90s.

had a chat with an E31 owner not too long ago, at a gas station. kept his car in beautiful condition. I admit, it is quite a classic
but the only 8 i'd personally go for would be a Z8

its funny, cause the final decision i had to make on a car was between an 8 series and my 335. If it wasnt for a shady dealer and a little too high of a price (as well as people warning me about the problems), i was almost in the 8. Amazing car to look at and drive.
