(Lets just say magazine racing 0-60 & 1/4 mile times isn't the best comparison) |

Great find Op.
You have to remember though, these cars were tested on days with different temperature, Humidity level, road, etc. The results could vary. Nevertheless, your find gives us an idea.: thumbsup: Fixed

The relative slalom times reaffirms other publication
M3 coupe 6MT Slalom (mph): 73.3 M3 sedan 6MT Slalom (mph): 71.8 135i 6MT sport Slalom (mph): 72.4 335i coupe 6AT Slalom (mph): 69.5 As for 0 to 60 it seems like they have bad launches. All the autos or 4wd have good times but all the rwd MT have worse time than other publication's |

That was exactly my point. The M3 is faster but if you were to go by magazine 0-60 times like half the knuckle heads out there you'd think they were the same speed.

just to give an idea of why i choose these times all from edmunds, was because edmunds uses the MOST real world test esp in accel then any other car testing mag or internet site out there.
most and almost every magazine uses 1 foot roll out, in which edmunds also gives but i did not include. this of course is a 1/4mile type measument, where the car is doing about 5 mph before the time begins. car and driver, motortrend, road and track all use 1 ft roll outs. edmunds provides both, the 1 foot rollout and true 0-60mph. as for braking, handling tests, this as mentioned will vary and sometimes a good amount depending on the temp, weather road conditions of course. |

i agree with the OP edmunds is by far the best and most accurate magazine or internet publication.
here is a example of why: http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...hotopanel..1.* play close attention to the SAE type correction factors, data used to record or equipment and the rollout feature almost every single magazines use. this is why edmunds has the most accurate numbers. |

The 6MT 335i and 135i were the only ones tested side by side, but interesting none the less.

well the 335i is underrated in power, and the power is put down really well, if u look at the 0-60 times, the sti loses at around after 45mph its intial advantage of AWD launch and great 0-30 time. the AWD really does drag on it a bit, but a tune and such will wake it right up, trust me i know
take a look at the trap speeds to get a better idea. also, what i didnt and might update this thread with is the way they recieved the 0-60 and such times or the launch technique they used. comparing the STI using the only tranny, MT, edmunds required a 6k rpm clutch drop, which they call brutal, to get there calimed 4.8 seconds to 60 mph. so a real world of about 5.1 sec or so would be what the STI would be rated at in real world w/o dropping the clutch to 60mph imo. but unfortunately i have yet to see a manual tranny 6mt 335xi do a 6k clutch drop or etc. and see the time it has to recieve, i would suspect its 0-60mph would get further in the 335i 4.8 time (4.6?) |

insideline has said the 4.8 0-60 times on the 335 were from the early press cars that had a little extra boost in the high end.
same day, same driver, insideline found the 135 is .2 secs faster to 60 (5.2 secs for the 335 vs. 5.0 for the 135) car and driver got 4.7 secs 0-60 and 13.3@106 on a 6mt 135i. Similar numbers were acheived with an automatic by another mag, i believe motortrend. don't have time to find the links now. would love to see if anyone else did a same day same driver 135/335 comparison.

excellent points you have brung, but only one car on the first test they did was what they wondered if it has more power the usual, and who is not to say that the 135i hasnt have the same issue when testing? they have got those times during other test FWIW, both with a manual and a auto as i linked here. during insidelines test of 135i vs 335 vs e46 m3, as im almost positive you are refering to, was done with a 335i running non sport all season tires, imo not a very fair test of accel. comparison since the 335i has a hard time getting traction with its sport setup and summer tires. i dont care much to bring in car and driver or motortend as they both use the 1 ft rool drag style 0-60mph, in which why there times usually seem to be funny, and why i dont read any of there magazines any longer. but if u do notice edmunds got a 4.7 sec 0-60mph time with the 135i USING a 1 ft roll as motortrend does. |
