Sooooo hey e’rybody!
I’m here dropping my car off for the IB system recall and as they’re checking me in, the advisor says “Okay we’ll take care of both your recalls.” Both, you say? I didn’t get a chance to see the ID number on the second but it’s the esim thing. Interesting. I plugged in my VIN to the database last week when I got the Remedy Available notice and didn’t see the second (maybe because it isn’t a safety recall). I’ll let you know how it all goes. They said a couple of days. S |

I agree dubb13. You should not have to pay. The incompetency of that dealer is glaringly obvious. Do you have another BMW dealer in your city?

I just ran my VIN through BMW’s recall site and only saw the one, but my advisor told me about the eSIM one, and I saw it on their service iPad. Weird, no?
Once I have documentation I will post the number associated with the eSIM thing. |

When your vehicle does not meet Federal Motor Equipment Safety Standards due to a safety-related defect, manufacturers must alert you of this issue. Vehicle recalls are designed to address these safety issues before they cause you any car damage or bodily harm.
A personal eSIM does not fall into this category. IMO the Dealer is using the term inappropriately, probably thinking it makes the customer understand it better. It is a SIB (service information bulletin).

Ah. BMW’s site also uses the term “recall” for nonsafety issues but I appreciate what you’re trying to say.
The quote: “A non-safety recall involves issues that do not directly affect the safety of the vehicle or its occupants. These can include defects related to performance, emissions, or other non-critical components. For more information, you can visit www.bmwusa.com/recall.” You got me curious so I checked NHTSA also (US) who make their own distinction between safety and non-safety recalls and make the remark that they have no jurisdiction over non-safety recalls. |

I have this email. Dropping my car off today for the brake recall, eSIM, and figure out why the rear passenger door keeps filling up with water and sloshing around.

So I got my car back for the ABS recall and I'm at the latest firmware 3/2025.30 this was sure fix the ESIM issue on the car The problem is I can't get rid of this message that's in the app back when it literally broke a few months back I tried to delete RE-add it and it's been stuck in this deletion mode and I can't seem to get rid of that The firmware is ready for the activation I just can't get rid of this AND I'VE ALREADY CALLED T-MOBILE AND THEY HAVE ALREADY CANCELED THAT SERVICE MONTHS AGO
any suggestions do you think I should remove my profile from the app and then re-addit tried reinstalling clearing cache nothing seems to get rid of that.

So I tried to call the genius connected drive support we've been going back and forth with emails now listen to this they're trying to tell me that my car is not at the latest software if you scroll up above the firmware updated they originally pushed11/2024.65 to fix the e-sum issue is older than the version I have on my car support came back with an email telling me that I'm not at the latest version this makes no sense whatsoever You can clearly see it's a newer version and a number of above 11/2025.30 this is the latest firmware update is anybody else running this firmware update with no ESM issue

So I got my ESIM working it was a lot of work cause BMW support is awful.
Long story short I had to create a new BMW ID theni was able to reactivate the ESIM

OK so just got mine back, brake and eSIM fixes applied.
I reactivated my eSIM there when I got into the car, before I left the dealer. It was giving me the (dreaded) message of 3/4 steps complete for eSIM registration, so I reactivated as before in the MyBMW app. Completed that step, and the car then had the message that the eSIM was activatING and would be available soon. Maybe 5 minutes later it was available, and when I click the phone handset icon it gives me the option of using the eSIM or the connected CarPlay phone. I made a call with the eSIM which worked well. Proof will be when next I take the car out, and maybe I should test it without the phone in the car for funsies. I got an i5 as a loaner, which was new. The loaner paperwork of course said stuff about returning the car with as much gas as it had, whatever, so I did put the car on the charger last night because I have no idea what they expect. Two things: the car is locked to the lowest possible charging power (6A), and you can't change that, so like hours later you get another % charge. Fine, whatever. Second, the dealer said, oh yeah we just charge them, don't worry about it, we need to update that paperwork to make it clearer (or maybe people need to be less concrete than I am). I didn't have the trouble dubb13 had, for sure, but I will say you kind of have to mess around in the app to find what you have to do to complete the last step of activation. I didn't have to make a new ID, at least, that would have been a royal pain. But we know how robust the system is both from how long the eSIM issue persisted and the post-hurricane server downtime sooooo I think I'm just lucky on that front. S |

Thanks for the follow up yeah they just couldn't get rid of that deactivation message that was on my old ID so I actually figured it out on my own and just created a another ID which was fine added to the car as a secondary driver and then went online to my BMW app and change the secondary driver to the primary and then went in the car and deleted the primary that way I didn't lose any of my settings and the message went away and I was able to activate my SIM
