Electric mileage went up to 42 miles. It's crazy how much the temperature makes a difference in the amount of charge.

I5 m60 here.

Dead of winter 10F - 2.5-2.7 at best miles / KW.

50 degrees out Thursday - same commute home - 3.5 miles / kw

I got the car in November so have yet to experience nice warm temps. I had thought winter was bringing about 20% range drop but based on what I’m seeing now its far worse bc bmw is understating optimal temp range. It’s going to be closer to 300 miles ~3.7m/kw or a winter decline close to 25-30%.

Anything besides the obvious EV range / road trip inefficient / can’t home lvl 2 charge?

Did anyone drive them and prefer the 550e? If so, curious what was it.

Thanks
For me it was solely financial w/ the vehicle registration cost of a full EV as I don’t drive enough miles to average out the higher cost so the plug in was the logical solution.

I just wish there was a way I could run it on gas only with comfort drive train (without the loose gears on sport mode). I supposed doing "maintain charge" is the closest way of doing it aside from letting the battery run out.
I want to run it on gas only in comfort too. I deactivated electric, left adaptive regeneration, but I am not sure if you should maintain charge or not?

If you want full power, including electric motors, I think you should turn it off.

Other option is to charge your settings within sport and put drivetrain in comfort?

Sport with comfort drivetrain, from what I can see, still prioritizes electric.

"Maintain charge" will still seesaw from electric to ICE because its going to use the battery and then charge to maintain the charge level.

Best i had untill now was 82km = 51 miles. Was around 18c and (~65f) and drove pretty slow. Just made the trip home, when added the miles i had left i could have driven 51 miles.

Temperature does a lot. Battery capacity drains with lower temperatures and also the heating of the car cost a lot of power. Pre conditioning helps a lot.

Shift to S mode for the automatic will always turn the engine on, just as the sport drive setting. When customizing the sport settings to engine comfort it will still prefer the electric drive mode.
I "force" electric mode when i drive locally to the shop or work (everything < 30 miles). In other cases i let the car decide which seems to work pretty good. I hate the turning on, let the engine run for 10 seconds and turning it off. Battery hold usually prevents this on the highways.

But i totally agree: a force engine on in comfort mode (with comfort gearbox settings) is missing. Just like the possibility to change the "personal" mode.
Why cant i drive electric with sport suspension settings?

In The Netherlands we pay a tax to drive “business” cars for personal use based on the new price (not the discounted price but the registered retail price) which is around €135-140k for a i5 M60. A nice 550e is around €110k.
No problems when going on holiday (charging in The Netherlands is not an issue, in Italy and Spain is it) and driving a B58 are more than enough arguments in my opinion.
