Alessandro Nannini

The forgotten winner of the 1989 Japanese GP in his 19 Benetton when Senna drove into Prost, with Senna winning at first then being DSQ after Prost protested. Sadly a heli crash the following year severed an arm of Nannini and when re-attached after lengthy surgery ended his F1 career and he took up saloon racing for a while.

Sorry but that video is completely rubbish. Lots of pics of 2020+ era race cars.
But thanks for sharing because Nannini was one of the last rock star F1 drivers. He even could get the Ferrari seat if it wasn't for his horrific copter crash in which his arm was severed.
Fun fact: his sister is the famous Italian singer Gianna Nannini.

Everyone remembers '89 Suzuka and no one remembers who won it
And everyone remembers Balestre for it.

I remember seeing Nannini in the Group C Lancia LC2, up against the Porsche 956s and 962s in 1985. He was known for being very, very quick, easy to work with, and a voracious smoker! The chopper crash certainly put paid to his F1 career, but he did at least go on to have a successful career in touring cars.
