I am a HE. LOL And thanks for the well wishes. I too wish it were different. I truly wanted to at the very least like this car. I am bringing it back in again after New Years, again for the charging, and just as important the functionality of the i-drive system. Constant lock screens and hard reboots to temporarily fix it.

Wtf is going on here.
Definitely NOT the case in the 540. my 2025 540iX has a proper insert where the spare tire, jack and tools, and storage space under the floor. It does raise the floor a few inches to accommodate the insert. SO the floor center part is even with the trunk sill.

Yeah, you have had a hard time. After a year, I love my car even more than the day I bought it. There are occasional software glitches but nothing that has affected the drivability or enjoyment of my car. You truly got a lemon. Unfortunately, it happens sometimes.

Why don't you lemon the car instead of banging your head against the wall? The long list of problems and time out of service make it a relatively easy case.

If only it was a relatively easy case. A lot of the software issues are designated as "can not reproduce at this time", my retort to that is exactly, it's so random, and the requests they make are ridiculous, like leave my unlocked iPhone with them to try and reproduce. However on I might have them 4 times on the scheduled charging, was supposed to be a December fix for me. And with the holidays now I am going back in early January, if they don't fix it the attorney sends out a demand to repair letter, they will have 20 days....
Anyway, it is what it is, don't want to distract from this topic.

The dealers "know" how to word repairs to change the categories to keep it below the 4 for my state to keep the clock at bay.
The other is its a PIA to find time to keep going back, I have more important things to do.

That's a lot of discussion over a spare tire 😂 I went for the default no spare in my 550e. I have put 2,500 miles on her and still love it. I still have My 17 540 with m package but will always jump in 550e first. There has been not one glitch in its systems. I knew it wasn't going to be a 550m When I bought it. It is still fast, handles as nimbly as the 540 and I love the interior. I'm certain BMWs made lemons and sorry you apparently got one. This is a great car for me... My 7th BMW.

Agree with you that how one feels about the 550e probably depends a lot on what they are comparing it to. It is a performance upgrade vs. a G30 540 but a downgrade from a M550. Technology is better but interior materials are cheaper.

And the spare tire situation does seem to be getting unusual amount of attention but I think BMW deserves that for how half-assed their solution was. I don’t see why they couldn’t have put in a raised floor like they do on the 540 - even if it does eat into the storage space, the floor would at least be flush and it wouldn’t look so ridiculous every time you open the trunk.

Standard is a mobility kit, the spare is apparently an option. Between my original build and the correction for their errors the spare was added. I’ll be talking w/ the guys when my new trunk mat arrives.

I’m confused by this. I recall scanning all the G60 model standard features in the configurator, and mobility kit was listed for each. Does that mean a spare tire is a special request? Or dealer put down the spare tire option on the build sheet without consultation thinking it would please the customer?

Does the 550e have a heat pump? When I pre-condition or open the door on a cold day, I hear a pump starting and ramping up and down in the engine area. Is this normal? No odd noise inside, very quiet.

Also, in my prior 530e, if you open a door the lights in that door blink red. Don’t see that in my new 550e, maybe has to be approaching traffic to get the warning?

Thanks

For the 550e My dealer swears the spare is standard and the mobility kit is an error. I’m trying to get to the bottom of it.

You have to option the spare onto a build in the online configurator for the 540ix. Assume similar for the dealer system.

For the 540iX. For 2024 spare tire was standard. Mob kit was a $0 option with small print saying mobile deleted spare tire.

For 2025 (mine) the Mobility kit was standard with the spare tire becoming a $150 option.(option code 300) it comes with the tire, jack, tools, and the raised floor insert for it all to fit in and blend in. There is even a separate code for the trunk mat for "Spare tire insert" equipped G60's.

I don't know where that tire-in-a-bag came from in the 550e I have seen. It's horrible. It looks like BMW quit making the raised floor inserts and stuffed spare tires in a duffel bag. Maybe something a rental car company can throw in the trunk for someone who insists on a spare tire. Very unprofessional.

BMWUSA configurator now lists "space saver spare" $150 option for 530 and 540 models. Picture shows only a trunk with the floor cover on, not of the underfloor tray.

Has listed it since June. See above pics of my 2025 540i trunk with spare.

That’s the proper way to fit the spare. May I suggest swapping those jumper cables for battery jumper instead? I have a NOCO and it works great, no need for another car.

In case you missed it, Chris's Bimmers channel just posted at least six videos about the 550e. Here is one of them.

Hadn't heard of this channel before your post. But I just watched a couple videos and the iDrive videos are especially helpful. Thanks for sharing!
